Global Village Victoria is looking for experienced ESL Instructors for two summer programs. We are looking for dynamic and engaging Instructors who love working with kids and have specific experience with students ages 9-13. One program will run from July 27 to August 7, with ESL instruction Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The other program will run from August 3 to August 14, with ESL instruction Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM (with a 40 minute lunch break from 12:20 to 1pm). Up to an additional 4 hours of orientation and lesson preparation is required prior to the program start dates.
General Job Description:
The ESL Instructors will report into the Program Director and, together, will be responsible to ensure that our young, international students are fully engaged and actively learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:·
- Teach all four skill areas - listening, reading, writing, and speaking - using a communicative approach.
- Follow the curriculum as developed in collaboration with GV academic staff.
- Use level and age-appropriate supplemental materials to support lessons where required.
- Ensure the safety of students in the classroom.
- Create a warm, student-friendly and inclusive classroom and learning atmosphere.
- Engage the students in a “learning adventure” by encouraging them to use English as much as possible in class.
- Follow classroom operation procedures which conform to the GV Victoria Staff Policy Manual and Languages Canada guidelines (will be provided during orientation session).
- Attend an orientation session as well as curriculum development sessions (for a maximum of 10 hours) prior to the summer camp as required.
- Collaborate with other program staff to adapt and meet the emerging needs of students.
- Keep an accurate name list and check attendance before and at the end of each class.
Required Qualifications & Training:
- Fluent in English
- University Degree
- Approved TESL Training Certification with supervisor practicum, or a current teaching Certificate of Qualification in British Columbia
- 1-2 years of experience teaching multicultural ESL/EAL classes
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, and flexibility
- Ability to produce a clean police record check upon offer
- Willingness to sign a Declaration of Suitability to Work with Minors upon offer
Compensation & Benefits: Pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
