About Us
Born and bred in Vancouver’s vibrant Mount Pleasant neighborhood, Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions is officially making the leap and expanding to Calgary!
We are a cocktail bar disguised as a postmodern thrift shop — part industrial warehouse, part breezy patio, all retro-cool. We pour an ever-rotating list of forward-thinking cocktails, fire up an Argentinian-style wood and charcoal grill, and treat hospitality like it matters. Because it does. We’re thrilled to bring our unique blend of nostalgia and high-energy hospitality to a whole new city.
The Role
We're hiring Line Cooks and Prep Cooks who takes pride in food execution but leaves the kitchen ego at the door. You will split your time between daytime prep—scratch-making sauces, butchery, and portioning—and high-energy line work during service, specifically working with our custom wood and charcoal grill. We move fast, we care about the details, and we'd rather have a great teammate who wants to learn and work hard than a perfect resume.
What You'll Do
- Command the Line: Set up your station for success and execute menu items flawlessly to spec during busy, high-volume services.
- Fire Up the Grill: Learn to work with real wood and charcoal on our Argentinian-style grill, controlling heat and timing to push out perfect dishes.
- The Prep Work: Execute daytime prep lists efficiently—chopping, batching sauces, portioning, and ensuring everything is ready before the doors open.
- Keep it Clean: Maintain a pristine, organized, and sanitary station throughout your shift. Participate in deep kitchen breakdowns and nightly cleanups.
- Support the Squad: Communicate clearly with the expo line and your fellow cooks. We operate with zero drama and a "win as a team" mentality.
- Pitch In: Help receive and organize weekly food deliveries, rotating stock correctly (FIFO).
Who You Are
- Experienced: 1+ years of line cook or prep experience in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen. You know the rhythm of a dinner rush.
- Calm Under Fire: When the kitchen printer starts trailing onto the floor at 8 PM, you stay focused, organized, and keep moving forward.
- A Great Teammate: Reliable, punctual, and always ready to help out another station when they're slammed.
- Genuinely Curious: Excited to work with live-fire cooking and learn new culinary techniques.
- Available Nights & Weekends: Most shifts are Wednesday through Sunday, with a mix of daytime prep and late-night closing shifts.
Required
- Valid Alberta Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain it before your first shift).
- Strong knife skills and comfort operating standard commercial kitchen equipment.
- Physically able to stand for long shifts, lift heavy boxes (up to 50 lbs), and handle hot kitchen environments.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience with charcoal/wood-fired grills or open-fire cooking.
- Experience in a high-volume, chef-driven restaurant or upscale casual bar kitchen.
