Light Olives Childcare Center – Early Childhood Assistant (ECA / Non-RECE)
Position Responsibilities (Public Health & CCEYA)
Light Olives Childcare Center is a newly established, licensed childcare center in Port Colborne, Ontario, preparing to open in summer 2026. We are committed to providing a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive environment where children feel safe to explore, learn, and grow.
We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Early Childhood Assistant (ECA / Non-RECE) to join our founding team. The Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) supports the Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in providing care, supervision, and a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for children, in compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA), Niagara Region Public Health requirements, and all centre policies and procedures.
Child Supervision & Program Support
- Support the supervision of children at all times under the direction of an RECE or Supervisor
- Assist in the implementation of the centre’s Program Statement and daily routines
- Engage children in developmentally appropriate play and learning experiences
- Support inclusive practices that respect children’s diverse needs, abilities, and backgrounds
Health, Safety & Infection Prevention
- Follow all Niagara Region Public Health infection prevention and control practices
- Assist children with proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
- Monitor children for signs of illness or injury and report concerns immediately to the RECE or Supervisor
- Support emergency procedures, fire drills, safe sleep practices, and serious occurrence reporting as directed
- Administer medication only as permitted by policy and under the direction of an RECE or Supervisor
Nutrition & Mealtime Support
- Assist with meal and snack routines in accordance with Public Health guidance
- Ensure allergy and dietary restrictions are followed at all times
- Support safe eating practices and supervise children during meals and snacks
- Encourage positive mealtime routines without pressure or force
Environment, Cleaning & Sanitizing
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary program areas
- Follow centre cleaning and sanitizing schedules for toys, equipment, washrooms, and high-touch surfaces
- Support proper diapering, toileting, and washroom routines in accordance with Public Health requirements
Documentation & Communication
- Assist RECEs with observations and documentation as required
- Maintain confidentiality of children and families at all times
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with families under the direction of supervisory staff
- Report safety, health, or program concerns promptly
Professional Conduct & Teamwork
- Demonstrate respectful, positive, and professional interactions with children, families, and staff
- Work collaboratively with RECEs, ECAs, students, and volunteers
- Participate in required training, professional development, and staff meetings
- Follow all centre policies, procedures, and codes of conduct
Skills & Core Competencies
- Genuine interest in working with young children

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, flexibility, and cultural sensitivity
- Physical and mental health sufficient to meet the demands of the role
- Understanding of How Does Learning Happen? principles (preferred)
Qualifications Required
- Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (current)
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- Up-to-date immunizations, as required by Public Health
- Two-step TB test or current medical clearance
- Food Handler Certificate
- Knowledge of Niagara Region Public Health requirements
- Experience working in a licensed child care setting (preferred)

Pay: $17.60-$20.60 per hour
