Central Concrete and Flooring Accessories Inc. is seeking a hardworking, customer-focused individual to join our Kelowna team in a hybrid Shipping and Receiving/Inside Sales role. This position is designed for a motivated individual who thrives in both a physical warehouse environment and a customer-facing sales capacity.
The successful candidate will spend approximately 60% of their time on shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations, and 40% supporting counter sales activities. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving (approx. 60% of role)
- Operate a forklift in a safe manner to move received product and prepare product for shipping.
- Verify product expiration codes and inspect incoming shipments for accuracy and condition.
- Lift cases of product and/or stock merchandise according to documented procedures.
- Process all required paperwork and maintain adequate records for reporting and tracking.
- Track shipments and verify receipts of shipments as required.
- Manage inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Sort and distribute incoming shipments to the appropriate areas.
- Maintain an organized warehouse, shipping and receiving area, and yard in accordance with policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with the inside sales team to ensure customer orders are prepared and shipped in a timely and accurate manner.
- Other duties as assigned by the organization.
Inside/Counter Sales (approx. 40% of role)
- Serve as a point of contact for walk-in and telephone customers, responding to inquiries, providing product information, and addressing concerns.
- Assist customers in selecting appropriate concrete and flooring products, services, and solutions to meet their specific needs.
- Quote customers within the approved pricing structure, ensuring that value-added products and premium services are offered on all orders.
- Process sales orders, quotes, and invoices accurately and efficiently, entering information into the system and confirming details with customers.
- Assist with scheduling deliveries and coordinating logistics to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment.
- Handle customer complaints and inquiries promptly and professionally, investigating issues, resolving problems, and escalating as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of transactions and inquiries, documenting information in the system and following up as necessary.
- Stay informed about company products, services, and promotions to provide accurate and up-to-date information to customers.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a shipping and receiving role or similar warehouse environment preferred.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a related industry (construction, flooring, concrete, or building materials) is an asset.
- Previous experience in customer service or inside sales, preferably in the construction or building materials industry.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively present product features and benefits.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with customers and colleagues.
- Good organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate material handling equipment including a forklift; forklift certification is an asset.
- Ability to perform repetitive heavy lifting; physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs without assistance.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, problem-solve creatively, and handle difficult situations with professionalism and tact.
- Strong work ethic, positive team attitude, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
- Self-motivated with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in customer service, sales, or a related field preferred.
Working Conditions
- This is a full-time, hourly position.
- 8 Hour shifts, Monday to Friday
