Burt’s Bar is looking to hire Security Guards to support the safe, organized, and smooth operation of our establishment. Security staff play an important role in maintaining a controlled and welcoming environment while helping protect the safety of guests, employees, and the property.
This position involves working in a fast-paced nightlife environment where situations can change quickly. Security Guards are expected to remain attentive throughout their shifts, communicate professionally with guests and coworkers, and respond appropriately when concerns or incidents arise. The role requires close cooperation with management, bartenders, servers, and other security staff to ensure that issues are handled efficiently and the establishment continues to operate safely.
Security Guards will regularly interact with members of the public and must be able to balance firm enforcement of bar policies with respectful and professional communication. The position may involve extended periods of standing, working late nights and weekends, and responding to physically or emotionally challenging situations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor entrances, exits, and activity throughout the establishment
- Check identification and ensure guests meet legal age requirements
- Manage guest entry, lineups, capacity, and re-entry
- Enforce establishment policies in a fair and consistent manner
- Observe guest behaviour and identify potential safety concerns
- Use verbal communication and de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts
- Respond promptly and appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and medical situations
- Complete incident reports and document significant events accurately
- Maintain a visible, professional, and approachable presence throughout the shift
- Work cooperatively with management and the rest of the Burt’s Bar team
Experience
Previous experience in security, law enforcement, corrections, military service, bar or nightclub security, or a related field is considered an asset but is not required. Training and direction specific to the establishment will be provided.
Experience working in fast-paced, public-facing environments such as bars, restaurants, hospitality, customer service, or event security may also be valuable. Any background involving conflict resolution, de-escalation, crowd management, emergency response, or working with intoxicated or distressed individuals should be highlighted in the application.
Applicants must hold a valid Ontario Security Guard Licence. First Aid and CPR certification, along with a Smart Serve certification. Previous use-of-force or crisis-intervention training are considered assets.
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
