About Us
We are DMD-AI, an initiative from DMD Building Systems to create an AI-native construction detailing platform. DMD engineers, fabricates, and installs structural Cold Formed Steel (CFS) wall systems: the panels our detailers model digitally are built in our own factory and installed by our own crews. Working end-to-end gives our team direct, daily access to the workflows we are automating and to the people who run them.
Today, detailing a building takes weeks of manual, error-prone work in legacy software. Mistakes then surface on the factory floor or the job site where they are most expensive. We have started by building an internal platform to change this, and our civil engineers are shaping it with feedback on real project work. Our mission is to create an agentic, fabrication-focused Building Information Modelling (BIM) application for one of the world's largest and least-digitized industries.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a strong software engineer to lead critical design choices and accelerate development of our agentic BIM platform. You will join a small team of senior engineers with expertise in BIM, machine learning, and human-in-the-loop applications. As a founding engineer, you'll help shape the architecture and how we work, delivering human-agent collaboration purpose-built for complex building models.
What You'll Do
- Build systems that let agents operate reliably over complex buildings and documents.
- Build UI and 3D affordances that let engineers review, steer, and correct agent output.
- Optimize read/write/rendering run-times on large building models.
- Help develop and maintain our agent-native software development practices.
- Conduct user research with our detailers and engineers to understand their workflows and needs.
What You Bring
- Strong CS/Math fundamentals and a principled, disciplined approach to problem-solving.
- Strong software architecture skills and high standards for code quality and process.
- Sustained technical ownership of a project, from early decisions through long-term evolution.
- Exceptional communication skills and collaborative mindset suited for a small, senior team.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with or strong interest in shaping human-agent collaboration.
- Experience with complex, interactive 2D/3D applications or computational geometry.
- Experience or interest in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) industry.
- A strong eye for UX/UI design and a passion for building user-centric products.
Our Technical Environment
- Agent-native from design through deployment, with curated context and skills we version, review, and evaluate like any other engineering artifact.
- React/TypeScript frontend built around an interactive 3D editor, where performance on large building models matters.
- Python backend that understands architectural drawings and models buildings with IFC, the open BIM standard.
Why Join Us?
- Do your best work: we invest in long-term success driven by focused, high-quality engineering and applied research.
- Backed, but independent: enjoy the autonomy of an early-stage startup with the stability and resources of an established engineering business.
- Close to the real work: our software is grounded and iterates quickly via direct collaboration with factories and domain experts.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary of CAD 120k–160k, depending on experience.
- 1.0% equity in DMD-AI upon incorporation (more on this in the first conversation).
- 4 weeks PTO + statutory holidays.
- Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
