Overview
We are seeking a flexible and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing Guelph team. The staff accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing and assisting with review & compilation engagements, preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, and supporting month-end and year-end accounting processes. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, a commitment to accuracy, excellent client service, a solid understanding of accounting standards and reporting requirements, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Hours for this position may vary.
Duties
- Prepare compilation engagements in accordance with applicable professional standards.
- Assist in the planning and execution of review engagements for businesses and organizations.
- Prepare working papers, financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules for management review.
- Perform analytical procedures and investigate variances and unusual transactions.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Prepare corporate and personal income tax returns as required.
- Ensure engagement files are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
- Maintain compliance with firm quality control policies and professional standards.
- Prepare and file sales tax, payroll tax, and other government remittances as required.
- Collaborate with external auditors during audits and provide necessary documentation.
- Provide support for special projects and other accounting-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (preferred).
- 1–3 years of experience in public accounting.
- Experience preparing Review and Compilation Engagements.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting and analysis.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Effective communication & collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of auditing procedures and financial services regulations is a plus.
- Experience with payroll processing and financial statement preparation is highly desirable.
Pay: $24.00-$29.50 per hour
