The Position
BDS is currently seeking an experienced Lowbed / Heavy Haul Driver to join our team based out of Acheson, Alberta. This position involves transporting heavy equipment and oversized loads throughout Canada, and United States.
The successful candidate will operate lowbed and multi-axle trailer combinations, ensuring all loads are transported safely and in compliance with permits, regulations, and company safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport heavy equipment using tractor and lowbed / heavy haul trailer configurations
- Load, unload, and secure cargo using chains, binders, and other approved securement methods
- Operate winch tractors and assist with loading and positioning equipment when required
- Conduct pre-trip inspections, hazard assessments (FLHA), and equipment checks
- Ensure loads comply with permits, weight restrictions, and transportation regulations
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, site personnel, and supervisors
- Complete electronic logs, permits, and transport documentation accurately
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-maintained truck and trailer
- Perform all duties with personal and public safety as the top priority
Qualifications
- Valid Class 1 Driver’s License
- Minimum 5 years experience hauling heavy equipment or oversized loads
- Proven ability to load and unload heavy equipment safely
- Experience operating multi-axle trailer configurations (6–19 axle)
- Experience with RGN and Texas Bed trailers considered an asset
- Knowledge of cargo securement standards and transport permits
- Experience with winch tractors and oilfield equipment hauling
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel when required
- Valid passport considered an asset for cross-border work
- Experience driving in mountainous terrain considered an asset
- Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
