The Eskasoni School Board is seeking to fill a Culture and Textiles teacher vacancy.
Reporting to: Principal
Location: ABMHS/TEC
Term: Full-time Term (September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027)
Job Summary
The Culture and Textiles teacher will be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all students within their teaching assignment. This role focuses on sharing Mi’kmaq culture while helping students develop work life skills, textile arts, technologies and entrepreneurship skills. The Teacher will demonstrate a strong commitment to planning to support student achievement and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare lesson plans on Mi’kmaq culture, traditions, history and textile art such as sewing, beading, regalia making and other culture crafts;
- Guide students in completing hands-on culture and textile projects;
- Maintain classroom equipment, sewing machines, tools, materials in a safe and organized manner;
- Collaborate with student services staff and community partner agencies.
- Create a safe space for students to engage with culture and crafting through materials, teachings, and traditions.
- Harvest materials with a land-based program coordinator (student-led).
- Work collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and community members to enhance student learning and cultural understanding;
- Instruct or organize cultural activities or workshops such as hide work, drum making, beading, basket making, and regalia making.
- Build project based learning curriculum outcomes.
- Develop modules specific to traditional Mi’kmaw arts, crafts, and design in collaboration with landbased and curriculum coordinators.
Requirements:
- Valid NS teacher certification;
- Experience creating and teaching Mi’kmaq textile arts;
- Knowledge and experience with application of technologies to enhance instruction and learning (ie: google classroom, etc);
- Knowledge of Mi’kmaw Culture,traditions, language and protocols;
- Fluency in the Mi’kmaw language an asset
- Knowledge and experience implementing inclusive teaching strategies for students with academic and behavioral needs;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Excellent classroom and student management skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and families;
Salary: According to the Eskasoni Teacher Salary Scale.

In accordance with the Eskasoni Teachers’ Union Local 80510 Collective Agreement, bargaining unit members will be given preference.
Preference will be given to Indigenous people in accordance with the Aboriginal Employment Preferences Policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
