Job Summary
Steelcon is seeking a safety-focused and experienced Crane Operator to safely operate overhead cranes and lifting equipment for the movement, loading, unloading, and positioning of structural steel materials throughout the manufacturing facility. The Crane Operator plays a critical role in supporting production, ensuring materials are handled efficiently while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Operate overhead cranes to move structural steel, fabricated components, and materials throughout the facility.
- Safely load and unload trucks, trailers, and storage areas.
- Transport materials to designated workstations to support production schedules.
- Perform pre-operational inspections of cranes and lifting equipment.
- Verify load weights, lifting points, rigging, and balance before moving materials.
- Follow all Steelcon safety procedures, policies, and industry regulations.
- Communicate effectively with production staff, supervisors, riggers, and truck drivers.
- Identify and report equipment defects, hazards, or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections and equipment usage as required.
- Assist with general material handling and warehouse activities when needed.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Valid Overhead Crane Operator certification.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience operating overhead cranes in a manufacturing, steel fabrication, or industrial environment.
- Experience handling large structural steel components is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of rigging, load securement, and lifting practices.
- Ability to read work orders, lifting instructions, and safety documentation.
- Strong awareness of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Location, Shift, Hours of Work & Working Conditions
- Location: 615 Rusholme Rd, Welland, ON L3B 5N7
- We are actively hiring for a day shift, working 44 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 5:30 am to 5:15 pm
- May be required to work additional hours based on plant needs
- Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and industrial equipment.
- Requires standing, lifting, and walking throughout the shift.
