AIRBOTS Defense Systems Inc. is seeking an experienced Composites Manufacturing Technician for our Toronto manufacturing facility.
The technician will be responsible for the complete production process for composite aerospace and unmanned-aircraft parts, from material and mold preparation through lay-up, curing, finishing, inspection, and final delivery.
This is a hands-on position requiring independent work, strong attention to detail, and proficiency in multiple composite-manufacturing techniques. The technician will also occasionally operate CNC equipment to manufacture molds, tooling, fixtures, and components.
Responsibilities
- Review technical drawings, manufacturing instructions, and available CAD files.
- Plan the manufacturing sequence and prepare the necessary materials, tooling, and consumables.
- Prepare molds, reinforcement materials, structural cores, resins, adhesives, and release systems.
- Manufacture parts using processes such as wet lay-up, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, prepreg processing, structural bonding, and sandwich-panel construction.
- Operate vacuum equipment, curing ovens, and other composite-processing equipment.
- Demold, trim, drill, bond, assemble, finish, and repair composite components.
- Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, structural defects, and conformity.
- Maintain material traceability, manufacturing records, and inspection documentation.
- Identify manufacturing defects and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and improve molds, tooling, work instructions, and production processes.
- Occasionally operate CNC equipment to machine molds, patterns, tooling, fixtures, foam, plastics, and composite materials.
- Clean, inspect, and perform basic maintenance on production equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment.
- Follow all procedures related to chemicals, composite dust, machinery, ventilation, personal protective equipment, and waste disposal.
- Support other prototyping, assembly, and production activities when required.
Required qualifications
- At least three years of professional, hands-on composite-manufacturing experience.
- Professional references capable of confirming relevant experience and workmanship.
- Experience managing the complete composite-manufacturing cycle, from material preparation through final inspection.
- Proficiency in multiple composite-manufacturing techniques.
- Experience working with carbon fibre, fiberglass, aramid fibres, structural cores, resins, and adhesives.
- Experience with composite trimming, drilling, bonding, assembly, finishing, inspection, and repair.
- Ability to read technical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing instructions.
- Understanding of common composite defects and appropriate corrective actions.
- Knowledge of safe chemical handling, dust control, machinery safety, and personal protective equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, reliability, and commitment to production quality.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for completed parts.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience manufacturing aerospace, automotive, marine, motorsport, defence, or unmanned-system components.
- Ability to open, review, interpret, or prepare CAD files.
- Experience operating CNC routers or other CNC equipment.
- Familiarity with CAM software and CNC toolpath preparation.
- Experience manufacturing molds, plugs, patterns, jigs, and assembly fixtures.
- Experience with quality-management systems and controlled production documentation.
- Experience transitioning composite parts from prototypes to repeatable small-batch production.
Physical and workplace requirements
This position involves prolonged standing, repetitive hand work, bending, reaching, and regular use of hand and power tools.
The role occasionally requires lifting and carrying materials, molds, tooling, or components weighing up to 15 kg. Team lifting and mechanical aids will be used where appropriate.
The work environment may include controlled exposure to composite fibres and dust, resins, adhesives, solvents, machinery noise, and rotating equipment. Required training, ventilation, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment will be provided.
