The Department of Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Paediatric Medical Radiation Technologist. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator and will work with the Operations Manager and Medical Director as part of a team at the MoJo.
The Centre for Mobility and Joint Health (MoJo), in the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine, features state-of-the-art imaging, movement assessment and diagnostic equipment that can be used for clinical trials, clinical assessments or research studies. Some of the MoJo equipment is only available in a few places globally. The MoJo services clinical and research work in a variety of fields; the disciplines vary from orthopedics to pediatrics to rheumatology to oncology and more.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Imaging and Data Analysis:

Conduct regular DXA, cone beam CT (CBCT), and research-based high-resolution peripheral quantitative CT (HR-pQCT, on-site training will be provided) analysis, as well as create and maintain reports as necessary

Assist in obtaining, preparing, writing, and compiling materials for physicians, scientists, and ethics as necessary

Ensure projects are handled in an effective and efficient manner while recognizing the importance of maintaining documentation for each study supported within MoJo

Liaise and refer with Scientific and Health Care teams as appropriate

Collaborate with study teams to determine feasibility of projects from an MRT perspective
Quality Assurance and Evaluation:

Assist in developing technical Standard Operating Procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and recommend the development of policies to support initiatives as appropriate

Support the evaluation and reporting of activities in the Centre, including the management and documentation of DXA, CBCT, and HR-pQCT for various studies or reports for clinical teams

Train and mentor new staff and students on equipment and through technical workflows as appropriate, and correspond with manager to make suggestions on whether further training is necessary

Perform manufacturer-specified Preventative Maintenance on multiple modalities and address equipment errors as necessary
Qualifications / Requirements:

Graduate of a recognized Medical Radiology program

Active registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) is required

Additional Computed Tomography Imaging Certificate (CTIC) from the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) would be an asset

Enhanced practice authorization from the ACMDTT in Quantitative CT is an asset
-
Certification by International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD), or similar Bone Densitometry certification or training is an asset, or willing to complete once in position

Basic Cardiac Life Support, Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP)

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience performing computed tomography studies is preferred

A minimum of 2 years of experience performing bone mineral densitometry (BMD) is preferred
-
Previous cone beam CT experience is not expected, but would be considered favourably
-
Experience working with pediatric populations and families is preferred
-
A vulnerable sectors check is required

Ability to work independently
-
Ability to work in the afternoons and evenings, with occasional weekend days (~ once per month)

Ability to work a flexible schedule
-
Ability to pay attention to detail and accurately perform work

Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with participants, staff and physicians

Ability to consent participants who are participating in research and assist them in completing questionnaires
