JOB SUMMARY: The Downhole Tool Shop Technician responsible for the maintenance, assembly, disassembly, inspection, and repair of specialized oil and gas downhole tools within the shop. The role supports field operations by ensuring all equipment is in excellent working condition and ready for deployment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Under general supervision, performs maintenance functions such as repairs on down-hole tools, surface equipment and other production equipment in the application for down-hole tools.
- Assembles and disassemble down-hole tools, surface equipment, and other production equipment.
- Basic computer skills are preferred.
- Licensure to drive commercial equipment may be required.
- Given the nature of oil field service work, the ability to communicate effectively with others is necessary.
- The ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is required.
- Basic reading comprehension and writing skills are required.
- Basic computer skills are preferred.
- This is the entry level position into the tool tech family.
- Promotes safety awareness and environmental consciousness, and complies with all applicable safety and environmental procedures and regulations.
- Ensures compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations and guidelines.
- Promotes and takes an active part in the quality improvement process.
- Operating equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes to move tools and supplies within the shop and yard.
- Assisting with shipping and receiving, including loading/unloading trucks and picking up/delivering parts and supplies.
- Other duties as assigned by the reporting Manager.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 75 lbs) and perform physical labor, including standing, bending, and gripping for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, twisting and standing;
- Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week;
- May be asked to deliver equipment to the work site of clients.
Educations, Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
- High School Diploma, General Education Diploma, or Equivalent Experience;
- Class 5 Drivers License required.
- First Aid/CPR (an asset);

- Ability to retain the knowledge learned building each tool.
- Willingness to learn and grow within the company;
- Ability to read and comprehend simple oral and written English instructions and effectively communicate information to others;
- Basic math skills (additions, subtraction, multiplication and division);

Qualifications:
- Results from a pre-employment test must be deemed acceptable in accordance with company policies;
- 5 years’ commercial/drivers abstract must be in compliance with company guidelines;
- 1 plus years’ experience in downhole tool applications would be an asset.
- Results from a background check must be deemed acceptable in accordance with company guidelines;
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
