Key Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mill. The uranium milled at Key Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role
Reporting to the sr. coordinator, SHEQ this role is responsible for supporting the environmental program at Key Lake. The environment officer provides technical expertise in environmental protection, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports the effective delivery of environmental monitoring and reporting programs. This role also provides day‑to‑day direction to environmental technicians and supports continuous improvement of environmental systems and processes.
In this role, you will:
- Support the implementation and ongoing improvement of site environmental programs.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data to support decision‑making and compliance.
- Manage environmental monitoring activities, including field sampling programs.
- Prepare and review regulatory compliance reports and environmental documentation.
- Maintain environmental systems and databases, ensuring data accuracy and quality.
- Provide guidance and technical support to site operations on environmental matters.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of environmental technicians and contractors.
- Support special projects, including planning, scheduling and coordinating resources.
- Identify environmental risks and issues and work with site teams to develop solutions.
Required:
- post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental science, natural resource management, water management, or a related discipline;
- five to eight years of progressive experience in environmental monitoring, protection, or compliance;
- equivalent combination of education and work experience considered;
- experience working with environmental monitoring programs and data analysis;
- experience supporting regulatory reporting and compliance requirements;
- valid class 5 driver’s license;
- supervisory experience; and
- work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- experience in a mining, energy, or industrial environment;
- experience with environmental data systems such as EQUIS or similar;
- experience supporting environmental QA/QC programs; and
- experience leading field programs in remote environments.
