BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ANALYST (POWER BI)

Location: This position is primarily remote within Ontario, with occasional in-person requirements in Parry Sound. The successful candidate must be able to travel reliably to Parry Sound as required.
Located on the coast of beautiful Georgian Bay, the West Parry Sound Ontario Health Team (WPS OHT) provides services in one of Canada’s top outdoor adventure destinations.
Ontario Health Teams are Ministry-approved partnerships made up of health and community service organizations, including primary care, hospice/palliative care, long-term care, home and community care, mental health and addiction services, acute care, and other community-based services. These organizations work together to improve population health and make care more connected, equitable, and effective.
The Business Intelligence Analyst will be part of a small, collaborative team helping implement the Northeast OHT Data Support Project. Reporting to the Manager of Transformation and Performance, you will work closely with the Health Data and Analytics Specialist and staff from Northeast OHTs to understand their data and reporting needs and translate them into appropriate solutions. This will include developing Power BI dashboards and reports. You will prepare and validate data, document your work, and ensure information is managed securely and in accordance with privacy, data governance, and organizational requirements. You will also explain your approach clearly and support staff at each OHT to understand, use, maintain, and build on the resulting tools and processes. This role is ideal for someone with strong applied Power BI skills who enjoys solving practical problems, working collaboratively, and helping others build confidence using data. Healthcare experience is an asset but is not required.
- Develop clear, accurate, and maintainable Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Use Power Query to clean, transform, combine, and structure data from multiple sources.
- Develop data models, calculated columns, and DAX measures.
- Design visualizations, filters, and interactive features to support clear and accurate interpretation.
- Validate calculations and outputs against source data and agreed requirements.
- Develop practical processes for updating, refreshing, and maintaining dashboards and reports.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Review, prepare, combine, and validate data from multiple sources, identifying quality issues, limitations, and requirements for aggregation or suppression.
- Document data sources, transformations, calculations, assumptions, limitations, and refresh processes.
- Support consistent indicator definitions and reporting methods where appropriate.
- Work with the Health Data and Analytics Specialist and staff from participating OHTs to understand priorities and translate data and reporting needs into appropriate technical solutions.
- Engage local staff and subject matter experts throughout design, development, validation, and handoff to confirm the accuracy and intended use of outputs.
- Adapt solutions to different levels of readiness, technical capacity, and data availability.
- Explain Power BI concepts, development decisions, and technical processes in clear language.
- Guide local staff through relevant tasks and provide opportunities for hands-on learning.
- Develop documentation and guidance that enables OHT staff to understand, use, maintain, and build on the tools developed through the project.
- Adjust support based on varying levels of technical experience and confidence.
- Ensure data is accessed, stored, prepared, used, and shared in accordance with applicable privacy, data governance, and organizational requirements.
- Identify privacy, security, access, storage, and data-sharing considerations affecting the project.
- Escalate privacy, governance, or technical risks when additional review or direction is required.
- Maintain assigned tasks and status updates, and participate in project meetings, technical review, and quality assurance processes.
- Identify technical dependencies, data limitations, and scope concerns early.
- Manage work across multiple OHT priorities while meeting agreed timelines and quality expectations.
- Degree, diploma, certificate, or equivalent experience in business intelligence, data analytics, computer science, information systems, health informatics, statistics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience independently developing functional and interactive Power BI dashboards or reports is required.
- A combination of education, applied experience, professional projects, and demonstrated technical ability will be considered.
- Strong applied skills in Microsoft Power BI and Power Query, including independently developing functional and interactive dashboards and reports.
- Experience developing data models, calculated columns, and DAX measures.
- Strong understanding of data visualization, dashboard design, filtering, and interactivity.
- Experience validating data, calculations, and reporting outputs.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including tables, formulas, data cleaning, and pivot tables.
- Ability to develop repeatable reporting and data refresh processes.
- Strong technical documentation and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to manage information securely and apply established privacy, data governance, access, storage, aggregation, and suppression requirements.
- Ability to explain technical concepts, processes, and decisions clearly and guide people with varying levels of knowledge and experience through practical tasks and hands-on learning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate operational or reporting needs into appropriate technical solutions.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an established project structure.
- Ability to receive feedback, revise work, and participate in review and validation processes.
- Experience working with healthcare, population health, or other sensitive datasets.
- Knowledge of Ontario Health Teams and Ontario’s healthcare system.
- Experience developing indicators, measurement frameworks, reporting plans, or recurring reporting processes.
- Experience with IntelliHealth or other healthcare reporting platforms.
- Experience with SharePoint, Power Automate, Microsoft Forms, SQL, or related data and reporting tools.
- Knowledge of health information privacy, including PHIPA.
- Experience providing coaching, demonstrations, training, or knowledge transfer.

A competitive salary range of $35.80 to $41.50 per hour, based on qualifications and experience, plus applicable payments in lieu in accordance with organizational policy.
