Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Purchasing Coordinator to join our team in Hamilton, ON. This role plays a key part in supporting project execution through materials planning, procurement, and coordination activities. As part of the Supply Chain team, this position is responsible for sourcing and managing materials, preparing and analyzing Requests for Quote (RFQs), and ensuring timely and accurate material flow across projects. This opportunity is well suited for candidates with a background in engineering or accounting who bring strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. This is for individuals with strong analytical skills who are interested in applying their knowledge within a construction and manufacturing supply chain context.
Working closely with Project Managers and Engineering, the role requires the ability to interpret drawings and specifications, support material take-offs, and help identify and resolve supply-related challenges, including substitutions and delivery constraints. This
position also contributes to cost control, supplier performance, and critical path planning within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan, procure, store, control, and distribute materials to meet corporate objectives and customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with company standards.
- Prepare, analyze, and negotiate Requests for Quote (RFQ) for materials and freight.
- Communicate material opportunities or issues with Project Managers/Engineers, including substitutions.
- Negotiate contract terms, award supplier contracts, or recommend awards.
- Prepare purchase orders for materials and subcontractor services.
- Coordinate movement and logistics of purchased materials.
- Manage off-site WIP, including staging areas, inventory control, QVR scheduling/reporting (travel may be required within the Greater GTA).
- Address delivery issues with Project Managers or customers (e.g., lead times, handling concerns).
- Review and resolve claims for extra compensation; liaise with suppliers regarding errors.
- Support accounting processes related to purchasing and receiving.
- Identify cost reduction and process improvement opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Provide and enforce use of safety equipment and protective devices; maintain in good condition.
- Inform visitors of safety responsibilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, Accounting or a related field.
- Recent graduates or early-career professionals are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to read and interpret engineered product drawings, specifications, and material requirements.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to perform material take-offs, cost comparisons, and quantitative analysis; demonstrated experience managing budgets and overseeing financial allocations related to material supply.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., data analysis, cost tracking, reporting)
- Familiarity with construction materials, methods, or infrastructure projects is an asset; ability to identify manufacturing critical paths and effectively prioritize activities.
- Project experience in construction, civil engineering, manufacturing, or supply chain is preferred.
- Exposure to procurement, estimating, or project coordination is considered an asset but not required.

- Knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls.
- Strong work ethic with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Valid Class G driver’s license and insured vehicle.

Pay: $68,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
