About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an energetic 80-year-old woman living in a senior community in Brampton. She's a vibrant, spunky Jamaican lady who loves to stay active—chatting, shopping, traveling, eating, and meeting new people. She has a strong personality and values feeling in control and making her own decisions in her home. She worked as a government supervisor and carries that leadership energy with her. She enjoys talking about her childhood and career, loves word games, magazines, books, and getting her nails done. She's always on the move, helping with folding, tidying, and staying engaged in meaningful activities.
Responsibilities:
The caregiver will focus entirely on the client, providing supervision for safety, companionship, and medication reminders. She already has separate help for cleaning, laundry, and cooking, so your role is to be her companion and ensure her well-being. You'll engage her in activities she enjoys, accompany her on outings, and provide occasional transportation for errands or appointments. The approach should empower her to feel like she's leading the day—ask "What would you like to do today?" rather than directing her. Your role is to support her independence while keeping her safe and engaged.
What We're Looking For:
We need someone who is calm, patient, reliable, and brings positive energy. Cultural fit is important—ideally someone who is Jamaican or Black, and closer to her age group or mature enough to connect with her on a peer level. She responds best to caregivers who respect her independence and make her feel comfortable and in control. You should have experience with cognitive support and supervision, be skilled in companionship, and communicate clearly with the family. A valid driver's license is helpful for occasional outings. English-speaking is required.
Schedule:
This is a weekend-focused role with overnight and daytime coverage. Care is needed Friday evening through Saturday overnight, all day Saturday and Sunday, and Sunday evening. The client attends a day program three days per week, so weekday support is not required at this time. We're looking to start as soon as possible, ideally mid-July or shortly after.
