Job Summary
Assists pharmacists to fill, dispense prescriptions for patients. Assists patients at the counter, retrieves prescriptions, processes register transactions. Orders and stocks drugs, supplies, and over-the-counter merchandise. Updates patient records and inventory, processes invoices and makes accounting entries using a computerized system.
Daily tasks and responsibilities :
● Assists patients at the counter, receives written prescriptions for Pharmacists, and
retrieves filled prescriptions. Processes register transactions.. Receives payment,
makes change, processes cheques, credit and debit charges. Provides prompt and
courteous patient service. Answers phones, directs members to product location.
● Obtains patient medical history and maintains confidential computer records, and
assists pharmacists in updating patient profile and entering prescription information
into the pharmacy computer to extent permitted by provincial regulations. Preserves
patient confidentiality.
● Fills prescriptions by bringing stock bottles, counting medication in appropriate
containers, labelling and pricing prescriptions under Pharmacist's supervision to the
extent permitted by provincial regulations.
● Completes packaging verification for prescriptions previously checked for therapeutic
appropriateness by the pharmacist to the extent permitted by provincial regulations.
Selects generic substitutions when necessary.
● Prepares third-party insurance claims, processes invoices, and makes accounting
entries using a computerized system.
● Orders, receives, tags and stocks prescription drugs and supplies. Follows product
storage procedures and standards.
● Orders, receives, tags and stocks over-the-counter products in accordance with
merchandising plans for the department. Creates product signs and does
over-the-counter roaming.
● Ensures the department is clean at all times.
Qualifications :
● Education/Training: Completed provincial Pharmacy Technician certification or
Completed a Pharmacy Technician course at a Community College and The
Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada Qualifying Exam.
● Licenses/Certifications: Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing in the
Province of Ontario.
● Experience: Candidates with current pharmacy experience will be given preference.
● Knowledge/Skills: Computer, math, and member service skills preferred.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $29.00-$34.00 per hour
