What You'll Do
As a Junior Field Service Technician, you'll work alongside experienced technicians to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair diesel, natural gas, and propane generator systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform weekly, monthly, and semi-annual preventative maintenance on diesel, natural gas, and propane generators
- Inspect generators, controllers, monitoring systems, and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Identify signs of wear, leaks, loose connections, corrosion, and potential equipment failures
- Perform basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
- Complete minor repairs and maintenance tasks
- Assist senior technicians with advanced diagnostics, commissioning, and corrective repairs
- Complete accurate Field Service Reports and maintenance documentation
- Follow CSA C282 preventive maintenance standards and company procedures
- Communicate equipment deficiencies and recommended repairs to customers and the Service Coordinator
- Coordinate with dispatch and the Parts Department to ensure efficient service
- Safely operate company service vehicles and transport tools and equipment
- Provide professional customer service during every service visit
- Participate in the on-call rotation
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driving record
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Willingness to travel to customer sites throughout the region
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following trades is considered an asset:
- Heavy Equipment Technician (421A)
- Truck & Transport Technician (310T)
- Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)
- Electrician
- Agricultural Equipment Technician
- Power Engineer
- Generator Technician
- Automotive Technician
Experience working with any of the following equipment is considered an asset:
- Cummins
- Caterpillar (CAT)
- Kohler
- MTU
- Generac
- John Deere
- Detroit Diesel
- Diesel and natural gas engines
- Generator control systems
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Load bank testing
- Preventative maintenance
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Reading electrical schematics
Technical Knowledge
Successful candidates should have a basic understanding of:
- Diesel and gas engine operation
- Oil, coolant, filters, belts, and hoses
- AC/DC electrical fundamentals
- Batteries and charging systems
- Voltage, amperage, and frequency
- Safe use of a multimeter
- Generator operating principles
- Fuel, cooling, and starting systems
- Preventative maintenance procedures
- Completing service documentation
