Description
The Summer Camp Program Coordinator will play a key role in supporting the planning, delivery, and daily operations of CCACH’s summer camp program for children and youth. The position offers hands-on experience in community programming, leadership, and skill-building. Tasks and responsibilities include:
Program Planning & Delivery:
Collaborate with CCACH staff and fellow coordinators to plan and organize daily camp activities and schedules.
Lead or assist with arts, crafts, music, dance, and recreational workshops for campers.
Help adapt activities to meet the needs and interests of diverse participants.
Environmental Awareness & Sustainability:
Participate in organizing and delivering activities that encourage environmental awareness and sustainable practices (e.g., nature walks, recycling projects, themed workshops).
Model and encourage eco-friendly habits among campers.
Digital Skills & Technology:
Use digital tools for camp operations (digital sign-in, scheduling, documentation).
Help facilitate activities that introduce campers to digital skills, such as digital storytelling, digital art, or basic coding (where appropriate).
Assist with taking photos or creating digital content to highlight camp experiences.
Camper Supervision & Safety:
Supervise campers during activities, breaks, and transitions to ensure a safe and positive environment.
Follow all CCACH safety protocols and support the well-being of all participants.
Inclusion & Community Building:
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful camp culture.
Encourage participation from all campers and support positive group dynamics.
Administration & Logistics:
Assist with daily registration, attendance tracking, and general logistics.
Gather feedback from campers and parents/guardians using simple digital surveys or forms.
Help maintain supplies and ensure activity spaces are tidy and organized.
Communication & Promotion:
Contribute to sharing camp highlights and updates through photos or brief write-ups for newsletters or social media (with appropriate permissions).
Represent CCACH’s values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all interactions.
The tasks are designed to provide meaningful work experience, support skill development, and contribute to the success of CCACH’s summer camp program. If there are any significant changes to these duties, Service Canada will be notified for approval.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a post-secondary program in education, child and youth care, social work, arts, recreation, digital media, community development, environmental studies, or a related field
- Interest in working with children and youth in a camp, educational, or community setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Comfortable supporting a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment
- Basic digital literacy, including comfort using online forms, digital sign-in tools, and simple documentation platforms
- Reliable, organized, and able to follow schedules, instructions, and safety procedures
- A clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check may be required before starting
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children, youth, camps, classrooms, or community programs
- Experience leading or assisting with arts, crafts, music, dance, recreation, or group activities
- Interest in environmental education, sustainability, or nature-based learning
- Experience using digital tools for photography, content creation, digital storytelling, or beginner technology activities
- Familiarity with culturally responsive, inclusive, and community-based programming
- First Aid/CPR certification is an asset
