About URBA & CAP
URBA is a non-profit business improvement association dedicated to creating a safe, vibrant, and welcoming business district in Uptown Rutland. The Community Ambassador Program (CAP), modelled after Downtown Kelowna’s “Downtown On-Call,” supports local businesses and the community through safety, cleanliness, and engagement initiatives.
Role Overview
Reporting to the CAP Operations Manager, URBA will be hiring 2 Team Members to join the Community Ambassador Program, working as a pair to provide frontline support across the Rutland business district. This role focuses on maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment through proactive patrol, incident response, and community engagement.
Ambassadors act as approachable, service-oriented representatives who support businesses, visitors, and vulnerable populations through respectful and compassionate interaction, problem-solving, and coordination with partner agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular foot patrols throughout the district
- Provide visible presence and assist businesses, visitors, and community members
- Respond to issues such as loitering, disorder, litter, and vandalism
- Support cleanliness efforts including litter, graffiti, and pressure washing
- Liaise with emergency services and community partners as needed
- Maintain accurate daily reports and incident documentation
- Promote a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment
Qualifications
- Strong communication and conflict de-escalation skills
- Sound judgment and ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Professional, approachable, and service-oriented attitude
- Comfortable using mobile technology and reporting tools
- High attention to detail and accurate documentation skills
Requirements
- Valid BST (Basic Security Training) license
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- First Aid/CPR certification
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Criminal record check (including vulnerable sector)
- Physically able to walk for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs
Pay $22.00–$25.00/hour (based on experience)
Schedule & Compensation
- Full-time: 37.5 hours/week (Monday–Friday, early mornings)
- Uniform and footwear allowance provided.
