The Technician, Sculpture & Art Studios, maintains the successful daily operation of studio and classroom facilities. This position supports faculty to ensure healthy and safe studio and classroom environments for students and staff.
The Technician provides assistance and technical support to students and faculty in regard to equipment and facility usage and ensures that equipment and facilities are maintained in good working order. This includes the preparation of materials for student and faculty use, and providing technical demonstrations, supervision and assistance to students in the use of equipment.
- Bachelor of Fine Arts from a recognized post-secondary institution, or closely related discipline.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a professional or educational role.
- Experience with a range of skills in sculpture; 3-dimensional art practices, woodworking, mouldmaking and casting, ceramics, metal fabrication, 2D/3D art studio maintenance and 2D and Foundations art practices.
- Knowledge of safe and efficient use and maintenance of hand tools, shop tools and heavy machinery in the areas of woodworking, metals fabrication, ceramics kiln, and general 2D/3D art studio maintenance.
- Experience with and knowledge of relevant Occupational Health & Safety standards and their applications in an academic studio setting.
- Ability to communicate principles and practices of safe studio work to students.
- Ability to multi-task and respond to timely tasks quickly.
- Ability to work collaboratively and with minimum supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
- Physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
