About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing team. This is an in-house accounting position that will play an integral role in managing the company's financial operations and supporting strategic growth.
The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, maintain accurate financial records, process payroll, prepare government remittances, and work closely with our external accounting firm to ensure timely financial reporting and compliance.

Responsibilities
- Manage the company's day-to-day accounting operations.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of all financial records.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare account reconciliations, including bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Process payroll and ensure payroll remittances are completed accurately and on time.
- Prepare and file HST returns and other required government remittances.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Collaborate with our external accounting firm on year-end financial statements, corporate tax preparation, and audits, as required.
- Ensure compliance with CRA requirements and Canadian accounting standards.
- Recommend and implement improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Support the continued development of our in-house accounting department as the company grows.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–5 years of accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing HST returns and payroll remittances.
- ADVANCED proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QuickBooks Desktop experience is also an asset).
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with external accountants and internal management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working toward or holding a CPA designation is considered an asset.
- Experience in construction, property management, or project-based accounting is an asset.
- Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and process improvement is an asset.
- QUICKBOOKS is a must. Our company is on this platform and is a must need.
