Position Overview
We are hiring a Quality Technician to support our QA Engineer with in-process quality checks across our mill and cutting lines. With rolling and cutting often running at the same time, you will be on the floor performing inspections, verifying first pieces at changeovers, and making sure operators complete their required checks on schedule. Our customers include demanding automotive accounts, so consistency and discipline matter. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented with a few years of quality experience who wants to grow in a structured quality system.
Essential Duties
- Perform in-process and first-piece inspections across the mill and cutting lines, including OD, wall thickness, length, squareness, weld seam integrity, and flattening/flaring tests
- Verify that operators are completing required quality checks on schedule
- Record inspection data and maintain accurate quality documentation
- Flag and hold non-conforming product and escalate to the QA Engineer
- Assist with non-conformance tracking and root cause analysis
- Assist with calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment
- Support internal audits and help maintain ISO compliance
- Collaborate with production to resolve quality issues
- Follow company safety and quality protocols
- Other duties as assigned
Must Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of experience in quality assurance or inspection in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems
- Strong attention to detail and communication skills
- Comfortable working on the production floor and holding others to quality standards
Nice to Haves
- Exposure to automotive quality requirements (IATF 16949, control plans, PPAP) — strongly preferred
- Experience in steel, tube, or automotive manufacturing
- Familiarity with SPC and basic statistical tools
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in a loud, industrial environment with moving machinery
