The Service Lead will oversee the daily operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring equipment, vehicles, and assets are maintained safely, efficiently and cost effectively. The successful candidate will provide direction to a small team in a shop environment coordinating maintenance schedules and handling inventory, purchasing, health and safety compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
· Plan, organize, and oversee daily shop operations to ensure timely completion of preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment servicing.
· Lead, mentor, coach, and support mechanics, apprentices, and shop labourers while fostering a positive, productive, and safety-focused work environment.
· Develop and manage maintenance schedules, work orders, and repair priorities through maintenance planning systems and collaboration with operational teams.
· Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure all employees are fit for duty, aware of assigned tasks, and understand associated hazards and mitigation measures.
· Review and approve employee timesheets, service documentation, inspections, and maintenance records for accuracy and completeness.
· Manage procurement activities including sourcing parts, consumables, tools, and equipment; obtaining competitive quotations; maintaining inventory levels; and coordinating vendor relationships.
· Monitor shop performance metrics including breakdowns, rework, parts accuracy, absenteeism, safety incidents, and schedule adherence, providing regular reports to management.
· Coordinate equipment repairs with external vendors, manufacturers, and maintenance contract providers, including contract programs where applicable.
· Ensure compliance with all company policies, health and safety legislation, maintenance procedures, and regulatory requirements while leading incident investigations and corrective actions as required.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment while driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, cost control, and equipment reliability.
REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum 5 years of experience in a maintenance, heavy equipment, fleet, construction, transportation, or related industrial environment, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
· Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, hydraulic systems, air systems, automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures.
· Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to coach, mentor, motivate, and hold teams accountable to performance and safety standards.
· Strong organizational, planning, and scheduling skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Experience with maintenance management software, Microsoft Office applications, and workforce management systems; familiarity with systems such as MS Planner, BambooHR, or similar platforms is considered an asset.
· Excellent communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with employees, vendors, contractors, and operational leaders.
· Valid Class G Driver's Licence and ability to work occasional overtime, on-call schedules, or extended hours when operational requirements dictate.
