The Project Coordinator (Spain/EU-based Queer Community Vocabulary Manager) role is part of the Project Coordinator/Manager non-union job class.
The Homosaurus Collective (https://homosaurus.org/) is a linked data vocabulary for queer terminology used in Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums, and Special Collections (GLAMS) seeks a bilingual or Francophone PhD student from Spain or the EU experiences in Quebecois 2SLGBTQIA+ (Queer) community organizations and vocabulary.
Witin the framework of the Destination Horizon Grant project 'Building Up & Building Out the Homosaurus Collective in Europe and Canada' (SSHRC File No. 2008-2025-00562), we are seeking a student - preferrably at the Master's or Doctoral level - with a background in linguistics, proficiency in the official languages of Spain, specialized translation skills, and training in gender and LGBTQ+ studies.
The Project Coordinator (Spain/EU-based Queer Community Vocabulary Manager) will be responsible for the following:
1. Establish and maintain contact with Spanish institutions and organizations specializing in terminology.
2. Translate or identify linguistic equivalents for terms from the Homosaurus vocabulary into the various official languages of Spain.
3. Propose semantic relationships between Spanish terms within the controlled vocabulary.
4. Prepare progress reports and a final report detailing the tasks performed and potential implementation strategies within Spanish GLAMS (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums, and Special Collections).
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and overseeing all aspects of one or more projects. The incumbent will coordinate and provide ongoing leadership of the project, and manage all project phases by setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring and summarizing progress and results. The incumbent will engage various stakeholders, ensure project support and sponsorship, and provide leadership and direction to the project team.
Qualifications
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Translation, Interpreting, Linguistics, or related fields; Master's Degree in Gender Studies or a similar discipline preferred; PhD or ongoing PhD in Queer Studies, Translation Studies, or related areas of research preferred
Experience:
- 2 years' work experience in a related field; Demonstrated experience with (Castilian) Spanish-language 2SLGBTQ+/Queer communities and vocabulary; Familiarity with Spanish terminology and dialectal variations in Spain (not Latin America); Excellent proficiency in written and spoken Spanish; Working knowledge of the official languages of Spain (Catalan, Basque, and Galician)
Preferred Experience:
- Experience participating in collaborative or multi-institutional projects; Demonstrable involvement in LGBTQ+ advocacy and knowledge organization; Strong proficiency in written and spoken English and Spanish
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Familiarity with best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people
- Familiarity with techniques for planning, managing and coordinating multiple projects, with competing priorities that involve a variety of stakeholders
