Position Summary
The Health & Safety Representative supports the Health & Safety Manager in promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment across all company operations. This role is responsible for conducting workplace inspections, monitoring compliance with health and safety requirements, assisting with incident investigations, supporting employee training initiatives, and fostering a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
The successful candidate will work closely with field staff, supervisors, project teams, and management to ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
This position requires regular travel throughout Ontario to company offices, project sites, and client locations. The successful candidate must be comfortable traveling to active construction and telecommunications work sites and may occasionally be required to work outside of regular business hours to support operational requirements, incident investigations, or site inspections.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, field audits, and hazard assessments.
- Monitor compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Identify hazards and unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform site visits to active construction and telecommunications projects.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the company Health & Safety Program.
- Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) inspections and initiatives.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and safety documentation.
Incident Reporting and Investigation
- Assist with investigations involving workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events.
- Gather information, witness statements, photographs, and supporting documentation.
- Complete incident reports and assist with corrective action tracking.
- Follow up on corrective actions to ensure timely completion.
Training and Employee Engagement
- Conduct health and safety orientations for new employees.
- Deliver toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Assist with the coordination and tracking of employee training and certifications.
- Support employee awareness initiatives and safety campaigns.
- Promote employee participation in safety programs and hazard reporting.
Traffic Control and Field Safety
- Conduct field inspections of traffic control setups.
- Monitor compliance with Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 requirements.
- Identify deficiencies and communicate corrective actions to project teams.
- Support supervisors and crews in implementing safe work practices.
Safety Program Support
- Assist the Health & Safety Manager with safety audits and compliance reviews.
- Support the development and implementation of safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Track and monitor corrective actions arising from inspections, audits, and investigations.
- Assist with client safety requirements and documentation as required.
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Required Certifications
- Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification (Part I and II) or willingness to obtain.
- Working at Heights Certification.
- WHMIS Certification.
- Valid Class G Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Preferred Certifications
- Incident Investigation Training.
- Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 Certification.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Health and Safety-related professional designations are considered an asset.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of health and safety experience.
- Experience within one or more of the following industries:
- Telecommunications Construction
- Utilities
- Civil Construction
- Infrastructure
- General Construction
- Experience conducting workplace inspections and safety audits.
- Experience supporting incident investigations and corrective action processes.
- Experience delivering safety orientations and toolbox talks is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
- Knowledge of construction and field safety requirements.
- Understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment principles.
- Knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 requirements is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with employees and supervisors.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.

Pay: $85,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
