Job Summary
Experienced Class 1 Heavy Haul driver to transport our excavators and other jobsite equipment to our demolition projects in Alberta. When Heavy Haul is not scheduled, the successful candidate would haul demolition debris in 80-yard demolition trailers and aggregate, concrete, backfill or topsoil in 40-yard end dump trailers. Drivers must navigate driveways, alleyways, lots, high traffic roadways and tight overhead environments while on industrial routes.
Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential, to successfully perform this job. Driver must have experience operating equipment (excavator, loader, etc.) in order to drive equipment onto low-bed trailer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following tasks:
· Operates vehicle in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety and municipal, provincial, and federal laws.
· Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment and documents checks
· Perform light servicing of truck as required i.e. checking oil, fuel levels, tires, lubricating, truck washing etc.
· Must demonstrate ability to maneuver truck into and out of tight spaces.
· Dispose demolition trailer (80 yard) contents at various locations such as transfer stations, recycling facilities and fill sites.
· Mobilize / De-mobilize heavy duty equipment such as but not limited to: excavators, dozers, loaders, tractors, excavator attachments.
· Ability to use a map book or internet map to locate service addresses, able to read write & comprehend (English) instructions and details given by the office.
· Immediately reports any unsafe situations or service-related issues to Supervisor or Dispatch.
· Participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings required by Visco.
· Works closely with Supervisor or Dispatch to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
· Notifies Supervisor or Dispatch of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
· Notifies Supervisor or Dispatch of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, street, alleyways or potential safety hazards.
· Follows route assignments as directed and completes end of day documentation and the check-out process.
· Performs all duties as scheduled by Dispatch and assisting other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
· Must be courteous when interacting with customers and/or the general public.
· Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
· Education: Completion of High School preferred.
· Minimum 5-years of relevant work experience operating a vehicle requiring a Class 1.
· Minimum 3-years Heavy Haul experience with ability to load/unload and safely secure a variety of equipment.
· Driving experience on air brake equipped trucks with trailers.
· Considerable driving experience with flatbed equipment trailers and gravel dump box trailers.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
· Hold a current Class 1 license with an air brake endorsement.
· Comply with our corporate insurance policy, all our drivers must be at least 25 years of age.
· Legally eligible to work in Canada.
· Successfully complete background check, which will include previous employment check, criminal history and current, infraction free driver’s abstract.
Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
· Knowledge of securing loads i.e. securing equipment to flatbed equipment trailers, tarping down loads, etc.
· General knowledge of city, provincial and national safety regulations.
· Thorough understanding of over dimensional and overweight permitting
· Attention to detail on overhead height restrictions and road bans
· Knowledge of proper methods used in loading, transporting and unloading of heavy trucks.
· Knowledge of greater Edmonton road system.
· Working knowledge of applicable safety regulations.

· Normal setting for this job is outdoors, therefore, varying temperatures/ground conditions throughout the year. Climate appropriate clothing, and PPE is required. (Hi-Visibility Safety Vest, Hard Hat, CSA Ear Protection, and CSA approved boots.) Additional PPE may be required at various job sites as required.
· Perform driver duties that may require pushing, pulling, climbing, and carrying heavy items.
· Must be able to access truck cab, climb ladder on truck/trailer to secure/tarp load. Must be comfortable working at higher heights (up to top of trailer approx. 10 feet).
