Summary: The Lead Childcare Worker leads the child-minding team providing quality child-minding for children whose parents or caregivers are attending onsite BFL Pre and Postnatal programs and Singke Mother Support Groups. This role ensures a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment for children from diverse backgrounds. The Lead Childcare Worker is responsible for preparing the child-minding space, planning and facilitating developmentally appropriate activities, and supporting the program administration support required, including all data entries required. The Lead Childcare Worker nurtures positive experiences for both children and families, ensuring parents can participate in programs with peace of mind.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Child-Minding & Supervision
- Planning and providing developmentally appropriate care for children while parents/caregivers participate in onsite programming.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment that supports children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being.
- Leads, plans and facilitates engaging activities such as play-based learning, art, storytelling, and other age-appropriate experiences.
- Attends to the children’s physical needs (which may include providing snacks with awareness of allergies and food restrictions), excluding diapering and feeding.
- Communicate clearly with parents and caregivers regarding routines, expectations, and their child’s well-being during the session.
- Leads and oversees all aspects of the child-minding services being provided during groups or events, including working collaboratively with the Family Educator and/or other program staff to ensure schedules and locations are confirmed.
- Works collaboratively with the Pre and Postnatal Services team, partner facilitators and child-minding teams, ensuring schedules and locations are confirmed and submitted to program manager quarterly.
- Ensures clients understand age and group capacity for child-minding services, support parents with separation anxiety related to childminding services, offer resources or referrals to parents as appropriate.
- Supervises and onboards all program volunteers.
Program Setup
- Prepare, set up, and take down the child-minding area before and after sessions.
- Ensure toys, materials, and equipment are clean, safe, and suitable for children of varying ages.
- Takes responsible to maintain a tidy, organized, and hazard-free environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
Administrative Support
- Assists with participant registration, sign-in and sign-out processes, and is responsible for all attendance tracking in ShareVision. Completes required program documentation and inputs all program data, including clients in ShareVision as required.
- Responsible for ensuring program targets are met per funder requirements.
- Follow organizational confidentiality, child safeguarding, and emergency procedures.
- Report any issues, concerns, or incidents to the program manager or supervisor promptly.
- Submits orders to manager for purchases to maintain food, arts/crafts as required, cleaning and any other supplies as required for the program. Provides recommendations of needed program expenditures to the Manager.
- Supports the organization’s Health and Safety Committee, including representing the program locations as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications/ Education / Certification
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid Food Safe Level 1 Certification.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum three years experience working with young children in group or childcare settings.
- Understanding of child development and play-based learning.
- Ability to support families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds with warmth and professionalism.
- Ability to remain calm while dealing with emergency situations that may arise.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills required, including use of registration systems, database data entry, document preparation, and professional electronic communication.
Working Conditions
- May involve light lifting, floor-based play, and moving equipment.
- Hours may vary depending on program schedules.
- A criminal record check and/or vulnerable sector check is required.

Weekly Hours: 11-17 Hours weekly / shift schedules and hours may vary based on scheduled programs. Current hours and work sites below, subject to change.
- Tuesdays, Olivet Church New West, 10:15am - 2:45pm
- Wednesdays, Edmonds Resource Centre Burnaby, 12pm to 3:30pm
- Wednesdays, McKercher, 530pm to 830pm
- Thursdays, Edmonds Resource Centre, 12pm to 3:30pm
- Saturdays, McKercher, 1pm-4pm
Wage: $23.47 - $25.62
