- Provide direct resident care including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Support residents with mental health and behavioral care needs using trauma-informed and resident-centered approaches
- Observe, document, and report changes in residents’ physical, emotional, and behavioral conditions
- Assist residents with mobility, nutrition, personal hygiene, and recreational activities
- Maintain a safe, clean, and respectful environment for residents, families, and staff
- Collaborate with nurses and other interdisciplinary team members
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures, workplace safety standards, and facility policies
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations and behavioral escalations
Qualifications
- Completion of an approved Health Care Aide (HCA) program
- Active status with CLHA
- Current vulnerable sector check completed within the last 6 months
- Experience working in long-term care, dementia care, addictions, or mental health settings is considered an asset
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and de-escalation skills
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
- Physical ability to meet the demands of the position
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of mental health recovery principles and dementia care practices
- Experience with responsive behaviors and crisis intervention
- Knowledge and experience using PCC (PointClickCare) documentation systems
- Familiarity with electronic charting/documentation systems
- Flexible availability including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
