Our client is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering municipal infrastructure, land development, and industrial projects across Northeastern Ontario. They are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) to join their team in either Barrie, leading the design and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients.
This position offers the opportunity to lead projects from initial planning and design through construction and commissioning while working closely with municipalities, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary engineering teams. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with project management and client relationship skills to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in municipal engineering, including roads, municipal servicing, stormwater management, and drainage, and enjoy working in a collaborative consulting environment where they can influence projects from concept through completion.
- Lead the design and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects, including roads, grading, drainage, stormwater management, water, wastewater, and site servicing
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering calculations, design briefs, technical reports, drawings, specifications, and tender documents
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, deliverables, and project risks throughout all phases of execution
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including civil, structural, mechanical, environmental, and survey professionals
- Liaise directly with municipalities, regulatory agencies, utilities, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders
- Perform QA/QC reviews and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technologists
- Review contractor submissions, RFIs, shop drawings, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Support construction through site inspections, field reviews, contract administration, commissioning, and as-built drawing reviews
- Conduct site investigations and evaluate alternative engineering solutions to optimize project outcomes
- Ensure designs comply with applicable municipal, provincial, and federal regulations, standards, and engineering best practices
- Maintain strong client relationships while supporting business development opportunities and repeat work
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility for immediate registration
- Extensive consulting engineering experience delivering municipal infrastructure projects
- Strong background in road design, grading, municipal servicing, stormwater management, drainage, and water/wastewater infrastructure
- Experience preparing preliminary and detailed engineering designs for municipal projects
- Strong knowledge of applicable engineering standards, including TAC, AASHTO, CSA, the Ontario Provincial Standards, and relevant municipal design guidelines
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and experience using Bentley OpenRoads, InRoads, MicroStation, BIM, GIS, or similar design software
- Proven project management experience overseeing project scope, budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication skills with experience working directly with municipalities, regulatory agencies, clients, contractors, and approval authorities
- Experience supporting projects through design, tendering, construction, and commissioning
- Bridge or transportation structure design experience
- Municipal asset management planning
- Contract administration and resident engineering experience
- Business development and client relationship management
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and technical staff
- Lead a diverse portfolio of municipal infrastructure projects across Northeastern Ontario
- Work on projects from planning and design through construction and commissioning
