About Dialist
Dialist is building the modern infrastructure for the luxury watch industry: a mobile wholesale network for vetted dealers and a flagship Marketplace backed by both Canada & USA's most trusted sellers, in-house acquisition, consignment, and authentication services. We are a small, self-funded team with services live in production.
Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent (a related degree, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience)
- 3+ years of professional experience building and shipping production mobile applications
- React Native and Expo with demonstrable production experience, including applications you have personally shipped to both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
- TypeScript and JavaScript (strong command of both; TypeScript is our standard)
- Experience integrating REST APIs, including consuming data, caching, error handling, and maintaining responsive client-side applications
- Experience with Expo Application Services (EAS), including Build, Submit, and Update workflows, or equivalent experience managing App Store and Google Play releases and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong understanding of mobile fundamentals, including:
- App lifecycle
- Navigation
- Deep linking
- Push notifications
- Offline behavior
- Secure local storage
- Performance optimization (startup time, list virtualization, image loading)
- Skilled AI-assisted development. You use tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot to accelerate development while maintaining complete ownership of the code you ship. We are not looking for developers who cannot explain or debug AI-generated code.
- Strong engineering discipline and clean coding practices, including:
- Meaningful naming
- Small, focused components and hooks
- Separation of concerns
- DRY principles without unnecessary abstraction
- Consistent adherence to project conventions (linting, formatting, folder structure, typed interfaces)
- Pull requests that are easy to review
- Strong understanding of core computer science and mobile/web fundamentals, including:
- WebSockets vs. Server-Sent Events vs. polling
- Authentication concepts (JWTs vs. session cookies, secure token storage using Keychain/Keystore, refresh flows)
- HTTP fundamentals (status codes, caching, request lifecycle, handling unreliable mobile networks)
- Data structures, asynchronous programming, concurrency basics, and race conditions
- Experience using Git in a collaborative workflow (GitHub, branches, pull requests, and code reviews)
Nice to Have
- Experience integrating real-time messaging platforms such as GetStream, SendBird or similar chat SDKs
- Experience with authentication providers such as Clerk, Auth0, or similar
- Experience with in-app purchases and subscriptions using RevenueCat, StoreKit, Play Billing, or similar
- Experience integrating identity verification/KYC providers such as Persona
- Experience with push notification infrastructure (APNs, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Expo Notifications)
- Experience building polished animations and gestures using React Native Reanimated and Gesture Handler
- Native mobile development experience with Swift and/or Kotlin for situations where Expo is not sufficient
- Experience building marketplace, classifieds, or social applications
- Testing experience with Jest, React Native Testing Library, Maestro, or Detox
- Experience integrating analytics and crash reporting tools such as Sentry
- Awareness of mobile accessibility best practices
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and debug features across our mobile application, including listings, search, messaging, notifications, and account management
- Integrate mobile user interfaces with REST APIs developed by the backend team
- Build and maintain real-time functionality, including chat, live listing updates, and notifications using WebSockets and event-driven architectures
- Implement polished user interfaces directly from Figma designs with pixel-level attention to detail suitable for a luxury brand
- Own the mobile release pipeline, including EAS Build, EAS Submit, TestFlight, App Store, Google Play releases, over-the-air updates with EAS Update, store review compliance, and application versioning
- Optimize application performance, including startup time, list rendering, image loading, offline resilience, and crash-free reliability
- Write unit and integration tests for critical application flows such as authentication, messaging, and listing functionality
- Maintain and improve coding standards by following established project conventions, contributing clean code, and participating in thoughtful code reviews
- Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to accelerate delivery while maintaining security, code quality, and complete ownership of your work
- Collaborate closely with the CTO, backend, product/design, and operations teams in a fast-paced startup environment
- Document the systems and features you build and share knowledge with the rest of the team
- Provide post-release support for shipped features
Evaluation Process
Candidates will be evaluated on both technical ability and product judgment.
The interview process includes:
- A technical interview covering the fundamentals listed above. Expect to explain core CS concepts in your own words.
- A practical coding exercise based on a realistic portion of our technology stack.
- Discussion of how you use AI-assisted development tools in your workflow. We will assess whether you fully understand and can confidently explain the code you produce.
- Discussion of mobile applications you have shipped, including your role in the project and your experience with the release process for the Apple App Store and Google Play.
- Code quality is evaluated throughout the hiring process. We care not only that your solution works, but that it is well-structured, readable, and maintainable.
