About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established, privately held organization in the food distribution and manufacturing space.
They are seeking a Controller to oversee the full finance function and support continued growth. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of financial operations and partnering closely with leadership.
The Opportunity
This is a key leadership role reporting directly to the CEO, responsible for managing all financial operations while leading an established accounting team. You will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, improving processes, and supporting the business through its next phase of growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, and general ledger
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Lead month-end close, including accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financial controls
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a small accounting team (Accounting Manager, AP, AR)
- Support performance management, development, and team structure
- Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment
Business Operations & Controls
- Oversee credit management, collections, and high-volume transaction activity
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies
- Support audits and liaise with external accountants
Planning & Analysis
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Analyze financial performance and provide insights to leadership
- Manage cost of goods sold and inventory-related financial reporting
Systems & Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and reporting
- Play a key role in future system/ERP implementation initiatives
What We’re Looking For
- CPA designation (required)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time at the Controller level
- Strong background in inventory and cost accounting (distribution, manufacturing, or similar)
- Experience managing teams and leading financial operations
- Strong understanding of cash flow management, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage high transaction volumes
