Job Summary
The Assistant Manager is a key member of the department who is responsible for assisting the Sr. Manager, Warehouse in the business unit’s success in contributing to the achievement of company goals, objectives. The Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing a wide variety of activities including shipping/receiving and storing products and maintaining inventory and associated records. Work force management responsibilities include training, planning and assigning daily work.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and coordinating revenue, sales, and Warehouse/Distribution operations.
- Ensure daily operations run smoothly and comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Ensure vendors and suppliers are paid accurately and continue to meet company requirements.
- Supervise the receipt, handling, distribution, and storage of all freight, products, and supplies entering and leaving the warehouse.
- Direct Warehouse/Distribution staff to ensure production orders are shipped to customers on time and according to delivery schedules.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding their needs and concerns, maintaining respectful and professional communication among management, staff, and customers.
- Assist with maintaining accurate inventory levels and ensuring all transactions and records are properly documented in accordance with company SOPs.
- Assist with developing and enforcing corporate policies related to security, safety, housekeeping, and pest control.
- Follow safe warehouse practices, identify potential hazards, report workplace injuries or accidents, and recommend improvements as needed.
- Ensure warehouse employees handling pharmaceutical, temperature-monitored, and temperature-controlled products are properly trained and follow applicable SOPs and COPs.
- Ensure all records and reports related to pharmaceutical, temperature-monitored, and temperature-controlled products are current and compliant with written SOPs, including retrieving reports and data from vendor systems and portals.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of qualified team members.
- Supervise warehouse employees by delegating tasks, providing training and coaching, supporting workforce planning, and assisting with performance evaluations.
- Ensure employee paperwork and payroll-related matters are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
- Assist the Manager with compiling, validating, and presenting reports.
- Maintain a clean, organized, orderly, and efficient warehouse environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-3 years of direct work experience in a warehouse or supply chain position
- Direct working knowledge of operations, warehouse management, and transportation management
- Direct knowledge of WHMIS and other safety systems
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong knowledge of warehouse documentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills
- Team leadership and teambuilding abilities
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Solid project management skills are essential
- Ability to physically handle items of variable weight
- Ability to safely operate a forklift and/or other material-handling equipment.
Education/Certifications
- Post-secondary education.
- Valid forklift certification.
- WHMIS training.
- TDG certification is an asset.
- GDP training.
