Duties:
Reporting to the Deputy Fire Commission (DFC) for Response Programs, the Response Systems Coordinator is the Office of the Fire Commissioner's (OFC) Emergency Services Officer responsible for planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the systems, plans, and procedures that support OFC response programs including the OFC Duty Officer (DO) system and the OFC Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). The position will coordinate assigned work in this program area and on other projects related to OFC priorities, mission, vision, and values. They will lead staff from the OFC, other government departments, and external partners on complex, multi-dimensional projects.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Experience in emergency services, emergency management, or a related field
- Experience as a structural firefighter or wildfire firefighter
- Experience using or working within the Incident Command System (ICS) or a similar formal incident management system
- Effective verbal communication skills with the ability to convey operational information and instructions to a variety of audiences
- Effective written communication skills with the ability to write reports and operational plans
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and strict timelines
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with diverse clients and stakeholders, and interact effectively with government officials, colleagues, and external groups using tact and diplomacy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities suited to the response programs portfolio and an operational environment
- Experience researching, developing, evaluating, and/or recommending strategies, plans, policies, or procedures
- Experience planning, developing, and/or coordinating training, such as courses and exercises
Desired:
- Experience leading staff and coordinating the work of others
- Emergency Services Instructor Level 1 training or formal instructor training
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba and occasionally in Canada and internationally.
- Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.
- Must be physically capable of wearing full turn-out gear and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Must have a valid Manitoba class 5 driver’s license.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties and functions of the job, including lifting heavy objects, kneeling, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights and entering confined spaces in various temperatures.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Manitoba Class 4 driver`s license with air brake endorsement at the time of application.
