Medical Office Assistant
Deer Valley Medical Clinic is a community clinic located in southeast Calgary, Alberta. Our clinic is committed to delivering comprehensive medical care to the community on both a walk-in and family practice basis. We are seeking an experienced Medical Office Assistant to join our team. This is a permanent, part-time position with varied shifts available, shifts comprising 20 to 30 hours per week. Our Medical Office Assistants are the first point of contact for our clinic. They are a dedicated team responsible for managing and maintaining positive relationships with patients while actively supporting our physicians and other professionals at our clinic. We require an individual who has the experience to seamlessly fit into our clinic environment, has used MedAccess or is familiar with EMR systems, and has excellent inter-personal skills, embedded in their professional and courteous demeanor. We will support you with focused, hands-on training shifts to ensure a level of confidence and success with our clinic operations, practices and systems.
Responsibilities
· Greet and check in patients, confirm demographics and provincial healthcare details
· Manage incoming phone calls from a multi-line phone system
· Schedule appointments using MedAccess (EMR/Telus Health)
· Process Alberta Health Services and WCB billing activity on a daily basis
· Generate invoices, process and collect payment for third party billings, i.e., insurance and/or law firm requests
· Process payment for uninsured, patient-paid services through a point-of-sale system; and/or accept cash payments and provide receipts
· Promote and maintain good patient relations and understand the importance of patient confidentiality and always adhere to it
· Work as a team with other staff members; maintain clear and consistent communication to minimize conflicts and manage same when they arise
· Maintain an organized work environment/reception desk, shared with other MOAs
· Provide support to physicians, RNs, and other clinic staff to ensure seamless care for patients
Qualifications
· Completion of a recognized Medical Office Assistant program
· Three years minimum in a medical office or clinic environment
· Knowledge and proficiency with medical terminology
· Experience with AB Health and WCB billing system and associated billing codes
· Experience with Telus Health MedAccess; other EMR experience will be considered
· Experience and knowledge of Netcare
· Extremely computer-savvy, high comfort level with technology
· Knowledge and use of a point-of-sale system
· Strong, clear communication skills, written and spoken; both in person as well as excellent phone etiquette
· Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to problem-solve, multi-task, and prioritize clinic tasks
· Confidence to work independently
· Confidence to openly communicate with other team members to ensure tasks are acknowledged and completed efficiently
Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
