Job Description
In collaboration with the Registered Dietitians, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the Diet Technician provides nutrition care to low- and moderate-risk patients by conducting nutrition screening and assessments, prioritizing caseloads, collecting and documenting nutrition information, integrating nutritional needs and patient preferences into meal plans (according to therapeutic diets), and providing nutrition education as appropriate. The Diet Technician also serves as a liaison between Clinical Nutritional, Food Services, patients, families, and the healthcare team, ensuring accurate documentation in Meditech Expanse and Computrition to support the provision of safe, patient-centered nutrition care.

Graduate of a 4-year Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, or Food and Nutrition Management diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution

Candidates with a Food and Nutrition Management Diploma must be active member with Canadian Society Nutrition Management (CSNM)

Minimum 1 year experience working in as a diet tech in a hospital setting, preferred

Broad-based understanding of clinical nutrition needs across diverse patient populations

Experience providing patient care and education to patients and families

Experience with developing and applying nutrition care plans for diverse patient populations, an asset

Self-directed with strong critical thinking skills and ability to manage competing priorities

Effectively prioritizes and manages workload both independently and collaboratively

Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills

Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic and rapidly changing healthcare environment

Strong negotiation skills and the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of patients

The capacity to work cohesively as part of a collaborative team

Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication (written and verbal) skills

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Meditech Expanse and Computrition (or comparable computer software programs)

Demonstrates a caring, respectful and professional approach

Additional Information
Status: Temporary Full-time (Approx. 18 months)
Hours: Monday to Sunday - Various rotating 8 and 12 hours shifts; 0600-1800 and 0800-1600 (Hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)
Salary: $33.783 to $39.949 per hour
