We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Asset Management Branch and help grow data science capabilities across the Ministry of Transportation.
Our work includes:
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, metrics, and KPIs that deliver accurate, actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate information needs into meaningful analytics solutions, while supporting the evolution of advanced analytics capabilities, including Machine Learning and AI.
- Building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models and data pipelines.
- Improving the performance and reliability of models in production.
- Developing visualizations that help decision-makers understand complex information and make informed decisions.
- Communicating findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Automating data preparation and analysis processes.
- Exploring new tools and methods to advance data-driven decision-making.

As a Data Scientist, you will work with colleagues across the division to develop data-driven solutions to real-world business challenges. In this role, you will:
- Train, deploy, and maintain statistical and machine learning models.
- Conduct exploratory, predictive, and statistical analyses using complex data.
- Apply data science techniques to improve model performance and outcomes.
- Design and build data pipelines that collect and prepare data from a variety of government sources.
- Create visualizations and other tools that communicate insights and support informed decision-making.
- Partner with policy and operational teams across government to deliver integrated data, analytics, and data science solutions.

You have:
- Experience applying descriptive, exploratory, inferential, and predictive analytics techniques.
- Knowledge of the mathematical foundations of common data science and machine learning approaches.
- Ability to synthesize information from multiple data sources while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to learn and apply public sector policy, program, and research methods
You have:
- Experience applying data science, advanced analytics, data mining, statistical modelling, and evidence-informed decision-making practices.
- Experience using Power BI and programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala and query languages such as SQL to prepare, analyze, and model large and complex datasets.
- Knowledge of data management principles and best practices for working with structured and unstructured data.
- Experience working in cloud-based analytics platforms such as Databricks.
You have:
- Experience communicating data and insights through dashboards, reports, presentations, and briefings.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong consultation, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to influence, build consensus, and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills to address issues and achieve project objectives.
You can:

- Think creatively and apply data-driven approaches to identify innovative solutions.
- Ask the right questions, seek feedback, and refine analyses to reach meaningful and actionable conclusions
You have:
- Experience working on projects involving diverse teams, stakeholder groups, and competing priorities.
- Experience leading projects independently and delivering results on time.
- Ability to learn and apply structured project management approaches such as Agile and PMBOK.
