Person -Directed, Part-Time Independent Contractor
AM (them, they, their) is 37 years old and lives in their own lower apartment in their family’s home in southeast London. They are seeking in person support 2.5 hours every other week on Mon./Tues./Wed./or Fri. Times are flexible and negotiable.
AM is pursuing their PHD in Anthropology. They are autistic, intelligent, artistic and articulate when not overloaded. They delight in gardening, walks in the woods, their many artistic expressions, and learning about anything that interests them. They are one of the founders of L.A.S.T. (London Autistics Standing Together). The challenges they face are with executive function, anxiety, sensory overload, word processing, severe face blindness, topographic agnosia directional challenges, sleep disturbances, and dietary sensitivities. They live with their dog Samwise, a Portuguese Waterdog who provides some emotional therapy but is not yet a fully trained service dog.
This person-directed support arrangement involves, meeting AM at their apartment and taking them out to get groceries at certain stores where they can buy the special foods they need, other errands as needed, or a trip to a favorite Garden Centre. While out with AM, the support person would help in maneuvering their way through the stores; ensure their safety in parking lots and crossing roads; prompt conversation; fill in for them if they get verbally stuck due to overload; help pack, carry and put groceries away. Occasionally when AM decides to stay in, help with tidying, cleaning or organizing their apartment will be needed, giving them prompts for next steps as needed.
The successful candidate will have post-secondary education, strong communication skills, proficient in using pronouns, be respectful and sensitive to gender diversity and Indigenous issues. They must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate vehicle insurance, three references, and a Criminal Reference Check.
You will be paid directly by the family, as a self-employed contractor. $26.00/hour, plus mileage.
