Project Role
- Acts as the Qualified Coordinator on multiple-employer construction workplaces.
- Coordinates health and safety activities between different trades and contractors to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Ensure all employers and workers on site are aware of known hazards.
- Facilitate communication between employers to prevent overlapping hazards.
- Participates in the identification and communication of hazards to the employers on site.
- Ensures mitigation strategies are in place and communicated to all affected parties.
- Ensures that safety programs and practices are adhered to during the course of the work through workplace inspections.
- Ensures Notice Of projects (NOP) are submitted and updated, as required.
- Updates and maintains Prime Contractor Safety Management Plan.
- Evaluates first aid and emergency response needs; and coordinates mock drills and evacuations, as required.
- Provide strategic leadership in the coordination of health and safety activities across all employers on the worksite.
- Develops and manages a real-time Site Safety Coordination extranet.
- Foster a collaborative safety culture by proactively engaging contractors, supervisors, and workers in hazard identification, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of workplace safety.
- Develops and review(s) construction management procedures, and training materials.
- Provides support for incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
- Collaborates with project team to integrate safety into planning and execution.
- Monitors and communicates changes to regulation.
- Provides mentorship and coaching to field personnel across multiple projects or facilities.
- Reviews and manages local component program(s).
- Delivers site orientations (i.e. local component program), as required.
- Develops and manages a focused Safe Work Observation program.
- Maintains a strong relationship with the local WSBC officer.
- Leads and mentors other Qualified Coordinator(s).
- Performs supplementary duties that align with and support the aforementioned duties.
Must Haves
- Experience working in a construction, industrial, infrastructure, utilities, civil, or heavy project environment.
- Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements in a multi-employer worksite.
- Working knowledge of Prime Contractor responsibilities and contractor coordination requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated success establishing relationships, and fostering safe, respectful, inclusive, collaborative values driven workplaces.
- 7+ years of experience in a multi-contractor construction environment, with direct exposure to Prime Contractor responsibilities, contractor oversight, and regulatory safety compliance.
Nice to Haves
- Project Coordinator experience working on hydro, utility, civil, electrical, mechanical, tunnelling, roadwork, dam, transmission, or large industrial construction projects.
- Strong facilitation skills for safety meetings, orientations, and contractor kickoff meetings.
- Mental Health First Aid, leadership training, or conflict resolution training.
- Experience in remote camp, industrial, or high-risk construction environments.
Education Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering technology, project management, occupational health and safety, or a related field.
- Preferred qualification. An equivalent combination of education and a minimum of 7 years of relevant field experience demonstrating the required competencies will also be considered.
Pay: $58.00-$70.00 per hour
