Are you a dependable, reliable, and hardworking person?
Does cleaning bring you a sense of satisfaction and pride?
Could you be mistaken for a “Monica”?
If you answered “Yes!” to all of these questions, I’d like to talk to you! I’m looking for someone to join my housekeeping business, and you might just be the person I’m searching for.
Calling all Monicas!
I own a cleaning business and am ready to bring two people on board to work alongside me to help grow this business. I have a full roster of clients, with more requests coming in each day. I would like to expand the exceptional service I offer to more people, which is where you come in!
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Each cleaning job will have its own list of tasks depending on what the client needs or wants. For the most part, the job mainly involves providing a complete home cleaning service, which includes:
- Kitchens: cleaning surfaces like countertops, tabletops, appliances, and cabinet doors; taking out waste; washing dishes; disinfecting sinks.
- Bathrooms: cleaning and disinfecting countertops, sinks, mirrors, and handles; scrubbing showers and tubs; cleaning and disinfecting toilets and bidets.
- Living room and hallways/stairwells: dusting and wiping surfaces, door handles, railings, and shelving; cleaning couches and chairs of crumbs and hair/fur.
- Bedrooms: dusting and wiping surfaces, door handles, railings, and shelving; changing sheets; collecting laundry.
- Vacuuming all floors in every room, and mopping all hard surface floors.
Other tasks you might be asked to do include:
- Starting and changing loads of laundry.
- Cleaning ground-level windows from the outside.
- Sweeping patios and balconies.
- De-webbing exposed beams in basements or upper floors.
- Cleaning blinds and window rails at every window.
- Repeating all housekeeping tasks in separate or adjacent in-law suites, finished basements or guest homes.
This business also occasionally gets odd jobs, including:
- Post-construction cleanups, where lots of dust is present.
- Large, new home builds that require a full day and lots of detailed work.
- Newly empty homes between sales that require a full day and even more detailed work.
- Month-end tenant move-outs where the timeline to get the place cleaned between the old tenants moving out and new tenants moving in is only a few days.
- Hoarding cleanups, where full PPE is an absolute requirement.
- Farmhouse cleanups, where the home is not necessarily more work than any other home but is way out of town and accessible only via dirt roads.
- Commercial cleaning jobs for local community events and businesses, which will often take place on weekends and late at night.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- A natural work ethic that drives you to work well and to work smart.
- Finding joy and satisfaction in a job well done.
- An appreciation for helping other people who reach out for assistance.
- A committed spirit that is dependable and consistent.
- A trustworthy nature that understands the importance of our work and the trust we’re given.
- A positive and friendly demeanor with everyone, including strangers, kids, the elderly, and pets.
- Reliable communication skills and instincts.
What you also bring:
- You live in Listowel, Ontario or the immediate surrounding area.
- A reliable vehicle of your own.
- An unencumbered schedule.
- A clear criminal record check.
- The ability to lift 20-50lbs (think: a cleaning product shoulder bag in homes with no air conditioning, a canister vacuum up a flight of stairs, water-ladden mop buckets across rooms, etc).
- The mobility to bend, kneel, walk, stretch, lift, pull, and climb stairs through a full day.
- No fear or allergies to pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and rodents.
- A strong stomach regarding mold, garbage, human waste, sweat, urine, and strong smells including cleaning products, old homes, and the environment (farm animals, dirt and mud, lingering tobacco smoke on clothes or furniture, etc).
- The desire and ability to stay committed to this job for at least 3-5 years.
WHAT I BRING:
- Regular clients looking for a dependable, hardworking, trustworthy cleaner to clean their homes weekly, biweekly, or monthly.
- One-time clients looking for hardworking, able-bodied folks to help with cleaning their rental units, post-construction homes, vacation homes, or pre-move cleanings.
- A good wage! I pay $25/hour, paid via direct deposit.
- A four-day work week! You choose which weekday you’d like off.
- The chance to pick up extra work, as needed.
- All supplies provided for you, as needed.
- A monthly gas card.
- A health spending account to spend on any medical, dental, or health expenses you need, topped up at the start of each year.
- WSIB, WHIMIS, and first aid training.
- A plain black tshirt with the business logo and the freedom to wear any kind of pants you feel comfortable in.
- The ability to work independently, to be trusted fully, and to demonstrate your commitment through your hard work.
- A boss who does the same work you do, and who values your time, your efforts, and your intrinsic value as a human being outside of the work you do to pay your bills.
I built this business on my own shoulders, through hard work and dedication. I want to find business partners who care about the work we do and how it helps people. Your efforts will matter in a deeply significant way - you’re helping our clients feel calm and comfortable in their homes, helping them accomplish tasks they can’t do anymore, and sometimes cleaning up years of stress and distress that have literally built up on the walls and floors.
This job matters. It makes an impactful difference in the lives of many people. Busy parents who juggle stressful jobs and kids, older couples who are trying to find ways to finally start enjoying their retirement, elderly people who need help doing tasks that are newly out of their scope of capacity, and people of all ages with health issues or physical limitations that have made it difficult or impossible to keep up with routine tasks.
You will, with me, be the face of a business that is blossoming on the basis of caring deeply about the importance of the work that we do. If you feel you understand the true value of this work, I hope to hear from you.
PLEASE NOTE:
Please apply with your résumé showing me your past work experience. I don’t expect you to have past cleaning experience; what I’m looking for instead is someone who demonstrates they’ve worked jobs that require independent problem solving, have been physically demanding in some way, and that have required high levels of trust from upper management. I also want to see your committed nature by showing me you’ve stayed at your past jobs for years at a time.
You can include a cover letter, but make it worth my time to read. Don’t make it bland and generic. Show me who you are!
If you don’t have a résumé because it’s been a while since you’ve worked, surprise me! Be creative and send me whatever you decide shows me your capabilities and personality.
When you’re applying, please keep these things in mind:
- I’m one single human who will read and review every application and résumé I get with my own eyeballs and free time. I won’t use AI software to “filter” the applications I get, so share your documents and answer your questions like you’re speaking to another human being, because you are!
- Having said that - I won’t be using AI for this process but I’m well-versed in how AI functions and appears, so any résumé and application that’s clearly bland AI slop will immediately get deleted. I remember how exhausting and demoralizing the job application process is, trust me, but if you’re applying to this job as one of 50 others you’ve applied to this week and you’re just trying to blaze through the application process to get ANY job, you aren’t the person I’m looking for. Scroll back up and re-read to see why.
- I will be doing my level best to reply via email to every person who applies. Please don’t call me or email me to follow up! I remember how frustrating it was to apply for jobs and be “left on read”. I don’t plan to do that to other people, but I’m one person - I clean houses during the day, and go home to keep working via phonecalls and emails in the evening. You’re safe to assume that if you haven’t heard from me, it’s because I haven’t had a chance to review your application yet, but I will and you will hear from me when I do, regardless of the outcome of my review.
- There will be an in-person interview for anyone who I feel might be a good candidate. Please come to the interview with 2 (two) references from past jobs; I will be calling them after the interview.
- The in-person interview will also have a quick and simple quiz on the basics of safety and use of household cleaning products. Please do some research beforehand; 10-20 minutes spent reviewing some reliable sources will be sufficient.
Pay: $25.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
- Mileage reimbursement
Application question(s):

- What excites you most about doing this job? There’s lots of benefits to it! A good wage, a gas card, a flexible schedule, an HSA account, working alone, meeting new people, meeting lots of cute cats and dogs… But it’s also a lot of hard work! So, what intrigues you most about working for me?
- Some clients cancel at the last minute, and new ones show up with only a few days to get a job done. How flexible is your day to day schedule?
- When are you available for an in-person interview within the next two weeks?
- Are you available to work 3 to 4 hour shifts in the evenings (start times anywhere from 8pm to 1am) about 3-5 times a month?
