Key Responsibilities
As the Site Superintendent, you will be the on-site leader responsible for overseeing daily construction operations, ensuring safety compliance, managing resources, and driving projects to successful completion on time and within budget.
Site Safety & Hazard Management
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement proactive safety measures.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient job site, ensuring clear access routes, storage areas, and designated safety zones.
- Lead safety meetings and toolbox talks with site teams and subcontractors to reinforce safe work practices.
- Investigate incidents thoroughly, document findings, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Enforce strict compliance with all safety regulations and company protocols across all site activities.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Oversee inspections at all stages of construction to ensure work meets design specifications and quality standards.
- Identify deficiencies early, document issues clearly, and coordinate corrective actions with trades and subcontractors.
- Ensure materials, workmanship, and installations comply with building codes and project requirements.
- Lead final walkthroughs and ensure units are delivered with minimal deficiencies and aligned with company expectations.
- Coordinate with inspectors and regulatory bodies to secure approvals, permits, and occupancy certifications.
Budget & Resource Management
- Monitor project costs, ensuring labour, materials, and subcontractor expenses align with approved budgets.
- Review and validate invoices against completed work and contractual agreements.
- Optimize resource allocation to reduce waste, control overtime, and maintain productivity.
- Track budget variances and implement corrective actions to keep projects within financial targets.
- Coordinate procurement and delivery schedules to ensure materials arrive in line with construction timelines.
Construction Progress & Reporting
- Provide regular updates to project managers and stakeholders on schedule, budget, and site progress.
- Identify risks, delays, and emerging issues early, implementing solutions to maintain momentum.
- Maintain accurate records of site activity, including labour, materials, and progress tracking.
- Review pre-construction documentation and ensure readiness before project kickoff.
- Participate in weekly project meetings to align timelines, resolve issues, and communicate milestones.
- Ensure all permits, inspections, and approvals are completed prior to project completion and handover.
Team Leadership & Workforce Management
- Lead, mentor, and support site teams to ensure high performance, accountability, and professional growth.
- Provide ongoing feedback to trades and staff to improve productivity, quality, and safety compliance.
- Identify high-potential team members and support their development into future leadership roles.
- Coordinate workforce planning across projects to ensure proper staffing and efficient site operations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- 7–15+ years of experience in residential, multi-family, or commercial construction environments.
- Previous experience as a Site Superintendent, Foreman, or Senior Site Lead is required.
- Experience managing full-cycle construction projects from start to finish is strongly preferred.
Certifications (Assets):
- Gold Seal Certification (GSC) is considered an asset.
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) certification or equivalent.
- First Aid & CPR certification.
- LEED accreditation is considered an asset.
- PMP certification is an asset.
Technical Skills:
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Solid understanding of building codes, construction sequencing, and site logistics.
- Proficiency in construction quality control, inspections, and deficiency
management.
- Experience with budget tracking, forecasting, and cost control principles.
