Further information can be found at www.veahavta.org JOB PURPOSE The Employment Specialist supports program participants in preparing for, securing, and maintaining meaningful employment. In this role, you will work directly with participants to address employment-related barriers while also building strong relationships with employers to create job opportunities. By combining career coaching with employer engagement, you will help participants progress from job readiness to job placement and ongoing employment success. This role plays a critical part in connecting talent with opportunity and supporting individuals in achieving sustainable employment and long-term economic stability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Career Counselling & Employment Preparation
- Provide individualized employment counselling and career coaching to program participants
- Support participants in identifying career interests, strengths, and transferable skills
- Assist with resume development, cover letters, and job search strategies
- Deliver interview preparation and workplace readiness coaching
- Develop individualized employment action plans with participants
- Identify employment barriers and coordinate with the participant’s Case Manager to connect them with appropriate supports
- Facilitate job readiness workshops and employment preparation sessions where appropriate
Job Placement & Retention
- Match participants to suitable employment opportunities aligned with their skills, interests, and goals
- Support participants through the job application and hiring process for identified opportunities
- Coordinate interviews between participants and employers
- Provide post-placement follow-up to both participants and employers to support retention
- Monitor workplace integration and collaborate with the Case Manager if additional supports are required to sustain employment
Employer Engagement & Job Development
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers to identify job opportunities, work placements, and hiring pipelines
- Conduct labour market research to inform job matching and employer outreach strategies
- Promote the value of inclusive hiring and support employers to implement supportive workplace practices
- Coordinate job fairs, hiring events, employer presentations, and networking opportunities
- Negotiate placement opportunities including wage subsidies, job trials, and customized roles where appropriate
Program Documentation & Outcomes (Employment Ontario aligned)
- Maintain accurate participant and employer records, case notes, and placement documentation
- Track employment outcomes and participant progress toward job readiness goal Monitor employer satisfaction and retention outcomes
- Contribute to program evaluation, reporting requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
- 2–3 years’ minimum experience in employment counselling, job development, and/or employment services
- Experience with Employment Ontario programs (after 2024) considered a strong asset
- Diploma or degree in Social Services, Career Development, Human Resources, or a related field
- Strong understanding of barriers to employment and labour market trends
- Experience supporting marginalized or equity-deserving populations
- Client-centred, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach
- Demonstrated ability to build employer relationships and support job placements
- Strong documentation, organization, and data tracking skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities
- Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to turn ideas into measurable results
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Annual Salary: $55,000- $60,000
