Journeyman Electrician – Commercial Projects
Locations: New Glasgow & Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Overview
Matrix HR is currently hiring Journeyman Electricians for commercial new builds and renovation projects throughout Nova Scotia, with work located in both New Glasgow and Dartmouth. Projects include large-scale retail store renovations, electrical downsizing and upgrades, as well as new commercial construction.
This opportunity is ideal for experienced commercial electricians seeking long-term project work with overtime opportunities and the potential for continued employment across multiple sites in Nova Scotia.
Applicants must possess a valid Journeyperson Electrician certification and have a minimum of three years of commercial electrical experience.
Travel time from Halifax to New Glasgow will be paid at the regular hourly rate, and workers will receive a daily meal per diem.
Compensation & Schedule
Journeyman Rate: $36.54/hour
Night Shift Premium: 15% ($42.02/hour total)
8% Vacation Pay
Night Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Paid travel time from Halifax to New Glasgow
$40 daily meal per diem
Mileage reimbursement at $0.60 per km to and from site
Overtime available
Opportunity for ongoing work on multiple Nova Scotia projects
Requirements
Valid Journeyperson Electrician certification
Minimum 3 years of commercial electrical experience
Valid Fall Protection certification or willingness to obtain prior to starting
Must supply own harness and lanyards, Full PPE
Reliable transportation for daily commuting between project locations
Strong understanding of commercial electrical systems, blueprint reading, and troubleshooting
Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and specifications
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in retail and commercial environments
Perform commercial renovation, retrofit, and new construction electrical work
Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment
Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment
Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and project specifications
Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other trades to meet project deadlines
Maintain accurate documentation and a clean, safe work environment
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven commercial electrical experience
- Strong blueprint and schematic reading abilities
- Knowledge of commercial construction and renovation practices
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
