Work Location: Lowe Farm, Manitoba
On-site work only. No remote work available

What you’ll do:
This Sales Agronomist position is an entry-level developmental role designed to build the technical, sales, and customer relationship skills required to progress into a fully independent Sales Agronomist position. Working under the guidance and mentorship of experienced agronomy professionals, the Agronomist will gain hands-on experience in agronomic services, customer contact and support, crop planning, and agricultural input sales. This role provides opportunities to develop agronomic knowledge, strengthen industry relationships, and build the confidence necessary to manage customer accounts and business opportunities independently. The Sales Agronomist will be responsible to initiate new customer contacts and maintain current customers. Building and maintaining strong customer relationships through regular in-person interaction is a key component of this role.The Agronomist also provides operational support during the growing season, as required.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Living the Co-op Brand:
Consistently represent and uphold the Co-op brand by demonstrating Gardenland Co-op’s vision, mission, and values in all interactions.
Act as a Co-op ambassador with a strong understanding of the Cooperative Retailing System and the cooperative business model.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Provide support, services, and knowledge of agronomic products to co-op customers.
Provide agronomic information and advice on seed, pest identification, crop protection, and crop nutrients/fertilizer so local co-op customers can make informed decisions based on reported findings.
Manage farm customer service responsibilities, including field scouting, agronomic troubleshooting, crop planning, fertility and crop protection recommendations.
Meet, in-person, with customers at key times throughout the year.
Responsible to maintain knowledge of current industry best practices and trends. Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
Sales, Marketing & Support
Contribute to the achievement of pre-established sales, gross margin, and business growth targets by supporting agronomic sales activities and customer service initiatives. This role assists with the pricing, price verification, sales, and inventory management of crop protection products in collaboration with the Agro Manager and Senior Agronomists.
The Agronomist actively participates in and supports ag programs, promotes approved financing solutions including FCC and Co-op finance programs, and contributes to customer engagement and marketing initiatives.
The Agronomist also helps coordinate grower meetings, field tours, and educational events, leveraging supplier partnerships to enhance Co-op's agricultural presence, credibility, and relationships with key growers in the trading area.
Administration, Operations & Safety
Responsible for safe handling, receiving and storage of crop protection products.
Maintain the Chemical Warehouse to CPI standards, including the audit process.
Ensure claims are written and submitted as per department procedure.
Be responsible for entering weekly records in the CRM program.
Follow Gardenland Co-op safety program and procedures.
Personal Development
Be committed to continuous learning and professional development, maintaining current knowledge of agronomic practices, crop production trends, local agricultural conditions, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
The Agronomist expected to actively participate in training and development opportunities provided by Gardenland Co-op, suppliers, and industry organizations, including required training programs, seminars, information sessions, research tours, and field days.
Work toward obtaining and maintaining professional designations such as the Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) and Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) designation, where applicable, to enhance technical expertise, professional credibility, and the ability to provide exceptional service and recommendations to customers.
Qualifications
Degree or diploma in agriculture.
No experience required. We are willing to train for this role. (At minimum, ag diploma required).
Valid class 5 license with a good driving record.
Intermediate computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Strong interpersonal abilities, with a focus on ongoing connection and engagement with customers and prospects.
Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to speak French is a strong asset.
Ability to work long hours when required (in particular, during the spring seeding season.)
Ability for extensive walking and lifting 50lbs.
