Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Unit Clerk certificate and Medical Terminology from a recognized post-secondary institution are required. Current CPR (BCLS-HCP) required. Excellent computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, e-People, Netcare, and Internet Explorer. Minimum 2 years current Unit Clerk experience in a surgery program required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated reliability and dependability. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision required. Able to recognize and maintain confidential information. Combination of equivalent experience and education will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years current Unit Clerk experience within a Preadmission/Day Surgery/Same Day Surgery unit is an asset. Current Unit Clerk experience in Central Intake an asset. Able to organize and manage workflow while supporting volunteer staff and program an asset. Courteous and pleasant manner with patients, families and visitors an asset. Preference will be given to those candidates that have current experience in Day Surgery/Same Day Surgery/Preadmission/Central Intake.
