The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates to support customer quotations and internal decision-making. This role works closely with operations, sales, and technical teams to analyze scope, labour, materials, and timelines, ensuring estimates align with operational capabilities and customer expectations. The Estimator plays a key role in supporting profitable growth while maintaining SMS Equipment’s commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.

Annual Salary: $140,000 - $155,000 per annum
Work Arrangement: Fixed on site
Schedule: Monday – Friday
What You’ll Do
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for remanufacturing / component rebuild / repair work based on drawings, specifications, and inspection reports.
- Analyze labour, material, overhead, and subcontractor costs to develop accurate pricing.
- Review customer RFQs and clarify scope, assumptions, and exclusions as required.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Sales, and Supply Chain to validate estimates and timelines.
- Maintain estimating data, pricing tools, and historical cost information to improve accuracy.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating processes and tools.
- Ensure all estimating activities comply with company safety, quality, and operational standards.
What You Bring
You are a detail‑driven professional with experience in an estimator or cost‑analysis role within an industrial, manufacturing, construction, or heavy equipment environment. You bring a strong understanding of labour, material, and production costs, along with the ability to analyze scope, collaborate across teams, and deliver accurate estimates that support operational and commercial decision‑making — all while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality.
- HET Journeyperson or equivalent in experience (3+ years)
- Experience preparing detailed cost estimates, including labour and material costing
- Knowledgeable in production processes and pricing structures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience using ERP or estimating systems
- Analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Sales, Engineering, and Supply Chain
Assets:
- Post‑secondary education in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business, or a related field
This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise).
