We're currently hiring a Utility Locator for our Kelowna division to cover a maternity leave for approximately 14 months. This position offers the potential to transition into a permanent full-time role.
Job Summary
Our technicians locate underground utilities on-site using geophysical equipment such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), interpret and mark results, collecting data to draft detailed reports such as Subsurface Utilities Engineering (SUE).
The ideal candidate will have an industry-related qualification and utility locating experience. Knowledge of GPR systems is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Perform utility locating services at a variety of project sites in all weather conditions.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, utility records, maps, sketches, and site plans to support underground utility investigations.
- Locate, identify, and accurately mark underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment, GPR, and other geophysical tools.
- Collect, document, and manage field data for reporting and project deliverables.
- Prepare digital drawings, sketches, and comprehensive reports for clients.
- Communicate utility findings, risks, and recommendations clearly and professionally to clients and project stakeholders.
- Maintain field equipment and ensure proper operation of locating technologies.
- Adhere to company policies, industry standards, and all health and safety requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams to support project delivery and client success.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a satisfactory driving abstract.
- Minimum of three (3) years of utility locating experience.
- Experience interpreting utility records, construction drawings, maps, and related documentation.
- Proficiency using electromagnetic (EM) locating equipment.
- Strong field documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technologies.
- Knowledge of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) principles and practices.
- Experience with CAD software, GPS equipment, or digital data collection platforms.
- RULT designation or willingness to pursue professional certification.
- Knowledge of underground utility construction methods and infrastructure systems.
