Our client is an industry leader in the General Contracting field and they are looking for a full time, permanent Health and Safety Coordinator.
Successsful candidates must have current experience and knowledge of the Ontario Safety Code as well as commercial construction experience.

Position Summary:
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Management System in accordance with ISO 45001/COR. This role ensures compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, company policies, and client requirements while promoting a proactive safety culture across all construction projects and office operations.
The Health & Safety Coordinator works closely with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, and senior management to identify hazards, reduce workplace risks, improve safety performance, and support the organization's ISO 45001/COR certification and ongoing compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Occupational Health & Safety Management
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the company's ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
- Ensure OH&S policies, procedures, and work instructions are current and effectively communicated.
- Monitor compliance with federal, provincial, and local occupational health and safety legislation.
- Maintain the OH&S Management System documentation, records, and controlled documents.
- Support management during ISO certification, surveillance, and recertification audits.
- Audit SiteDocs Reporting to ensure internal compliance for ISO
- Serve as primary contact with regulatory agencies during inspections, reporting processes, and compliance review activities (MOL, WSIB)
- Lead the JHSC in the office
Risk Assessment & Hazard Management
- Conduct workplace inspections and safety audits on construction sites and company facilities as required:
- Prepare actionable reports to communicate site inspection findings to SMs, PMs and senior leadership:
- Assist project teams with hazard identification, risk assessments, and implementation of appropriate controls.
- Monitor corrective and preventive actions to ensure timely completion.
- Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and Safe Job Procedures development.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Coordinate employee safety orientation and onboarding programs.
- Monitor and schedule staff training as required to ensure compliance
- Organize and facilitate safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills.
- Promote employee participation in safety committees and consultation activities.
- Encourage reporting of hazards, unsafe conditions, and improvement opportunities.
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain safety records including:
- Training records
- Inspection reports
- Incident reports
- Corrective action logs
- Equipment inspection records
- Safety meeting minutes
- Regulatory documentation
- Maintain contractor and subcontractor prequalification list, Obtain pre-commencement sign-off, Contractor H&S acknowledgement, H&S documentation and Monthly H&S summary by contractor per site
- Assist with regulatory inspections and client safety audits.
ISO 45001 Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of ISO 45001 requirements throughout the organization.
- Maintain documented information required under ISO 45001
Experience
- 3–5 years of health and safety experience in the construction industry.
- Experience implementing/maintaining an OHSM System.
- Experience supporting ISO 45001 / COR certification is strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections and incident investigations.
Knowledge & Skills
- Thorough understanding of ISO 45001 requirements.
- Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Understanding of construction safety standards and best practices.
- Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies.
- Strong organizational and document control skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.Ability to build positive working relationships with employees, subcontractors, and clients.
Pay: $60,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
