Summary:
The Performing Arts and Music Instructor is responsible for developing and delivering a high-quality performing arts and music program that reflects the Renaissance Kids philosophy and educational standards. This role designs and implements engaging, age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans grounded in Orff and Kodály methodologies while fostering a safe, inclusive, and creative learning environment. Reporting to Program Managers and working with fellow instructors, the incumbent supports student growth, maintains program quality and consistency, and contributes to the ongoing development of the performing arts programming. The position also ensures effective classroom preparation, timely completion of planning requirements, and participation in organizational meetings and collaborative initiatives as required.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and continuous refine a progressive Performing Arts and Music curriculum aligned with Renaissance Kids philosophy, incorporating Orff and Kodály teaching approaches.
- Plan, prepare, and submit monthly and weekly lesson plans that are well-structured, age-appropriate, engaging, and technically sound, integrating music, movement, drama, music theory, and music history.
- Monthly lesson plans are to be submitted to the department managers at an agreed upon date (the 18th – 20th of every month).
- Organize and prepare all instructional materials and resources required for effective lesson delivery.
- Teach in-person music and performing arts classes while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Establish and maintain program standards, teaching guideline, and classroom expectations for Performing Arts disciplines.
- Report to Program Managers and collaborate with other Instructors to support student development, program delivery, and referrals to additional arts programming where appropriate.
- Attend, if asked, either in-person or through a mutually acceptable designate, one faculty meeting per calendar year. This meeting will be held with no less than 14 days’ written notice to the instructor.
Schedule:
September to June
- Mondays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, with a 1-hour unpaid break.
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:15am to 11:45 am (except on a day where a statutory holiday falls and Renaissance Kids is closed).
July and August
- Mondays and Fridays from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:15 am to 11:45 am

Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Music Education, Performing Arts, Early Childhood Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Formal training and/or demonstrated experience in Orff and/or Kodály music education methodologies is considered a strong asset.
- Min. 2-3 years of experience teaching music and/or performing arts to children and youth in a classroom or community-based setting.
- Responsible Adult Certificate
- Ability to complete a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain, is considered an asset.

Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
